London Police On the Beat

The UK police force has a reputation as one of the best in the world. In general an unarmed force respected by their communities. London visitors will find the London Police (or bobbies as we call them) very approachable and friendly. The London police force is known as 'the Met', short for their correct name of the London Metropolitan Police Force. They cover the whole of greater London with the exception of the City of London who have their own force as does the London underground system, the 'British Transport Police'.  The Met was first structured on September 29 1829 and today has over 30,000 officers.
