50/52 Pictures of the Tower of London

The Bloody Tower was at first called 'Garden Tower'
owing to the adjacent Constables garden. The ground floor was built by Henry
III with levels being added after that. It became known as Bloody Tower
after a number of deaths that occurred here. The most notorious being the
murder of the two young Princes, Edward V and his younger brother
Richard, Duke of York. Said to have been killed by their uncle the Duke of
Gloucester (Richard III) by some but other claim they were killed Henry VII
by others. One was suffocated with a pillow while the other prince was stabbed to death.
Along with the deaths that took place here many well known figures were held
prisoner in the Bloody Tower. Judge Jeffreys was one former inmate another
was Sir Walter Raleigh. The study was where he wrote his book 'History of the World', published
in 1614, and is one of the preserved rooms inside the Bloody Tower. Claimed
to be one of the UK's most haunted buildings.
