Until February 2006 there
were in fact two Hilton groups as such. Hilton International and Hilton Hotels Corporation (HHC) of the USA. Ladbrokes bought HHC in 1987 and this became known as Hilton Group. In 2006 the two groups came together in a billion pound merger. While all their hotels are 4 or 5 star
(all self rated under own brand criteria) they do have a separate luxury brand which is Conrad. The first ever hotel for the group was bought by Conrad Hilton way back in 1919 in Mobley, Texas. Not until 1925 did the first hotel actually carry the groups name which was a hotel in Dallas.
Blackstone Group offered $26 billion dollars for the chain in July 2007 which
was accepted.
