Introduction: The Hotel Ibis London City is just on the very edge of the City of London
, to the East of centre some 0.4 miles from
Liverpool Street Station. The surrounding area has much to offer in the way of
shops, bars and amenities but its not part of tourist London and lacks the
associated glamour and colour. However nearby are areas noted for nightlife such
as Shoreditch and Hoxton which are less than 1 mile to the North. A train ride
into the central tourist areas takes around 15 minutes. Brick Lane is short
stroll from the hotel and is well known for its late night bagel and Indian take
aways and for its Asian oriented shops (especially fashion). A 300 yards walk in
the opposite direction finds Petticoat Lane, said to be London's oldest street
market at over 400 years old. The market is geared towards fashion and clothes.
Worth a visit if you have the time is Old Spitalfields Market which is a little
further up along Commercial Street. Here you will find a selection of boutiques,
food shops, restaurants and bars in what used to be a fruit and vegetable market
for trade buyers. 0.4 mile to the South finds the
Tower of
London and
St
Katharine Docks. However probably the main reason for choosing the hotel
will be its easy access into London financial centre known as the square mile.
Just over 2 miles from the Docklands and Canary Wharf to the East.
