Introduction: The Novotel London Blackfriars sits 1/3rd
of a mile south of Blackfriars Bridge. The big plus to this location is that its
close to major attractions and surrounded by amenities while being equally
accessible to both central London and the City of London (square mile, financial
district). Either side of Blackfriars bridge are Southwark bridge (for the city
of London) and Waterloo bridge which will take you directly into the main
tourist districts including Covent Garden. The Novotel is walking distance to
places such as the Tate Modern (0.2 miles) and Shakespeare's Globe (0.4 miles).
The South Bank is just 350 yards to the north and is home to places such as the
London Eye, London
Aquarium, National Theatre and Hayward's gallery.
Trafalgar Square is just 1 mile to the north east.
Hotel:
Due to open in 2012 the Novotel London Blackfriars in housed on the site of a
former office block. Once complete the Novotel will be adjacent to the Ibis
Blackfriars (both Accor brands). The hotel is located on the corner of
Blackfriars Road and Meymott Street. The site was bought by Irish developers
McAleer & Rushe in 2007 for £25 million pounds with the hotel development
designed by HKR Architects.
Once complete the Novotel Blackfriars will include a gym, swimming pool, steam
room, sauna, twelve business suites, six meeting rooms (approximately 250 square
metres of conference space), bar and restaurant.
