Introduction: Adjacent to
Waterloo Station, home to a host of national and local rail routes,
is the purpose built Park Plaza County Hall Hotel. Its not part of
the main County Hall, the former home to the GLC (london
Government), but on a site opposite to the main building. Although
this location is south of the River Thames its actually just yards
from Westminster Bridge which gives access to the north side of the
river. Just over the bridge is Parliament Square which is where you
will find the Houses of Parliament, the house of Lords, Big Ben and
Westminster Abbey. However right on your doorstep the London Eye
(Millennium Wheel), a giant Catherine wheel like structure giving
views for miles over London. The London Eye also marks the start of
the South Bank centre which is home to places of interest such as
Haywards Gallery, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, National Theatre and the
Royal festival Hall. The area all around the hotel is busy and
bustling with plenty of shops in the local vicinity. 0.8 miles to
the south is the major shopping area of Elephant and Castle although
it lacks the class and style of the shopping to be found North of
the River. Nearest major shopping is to be found at Victoria Street
which is half a mile on the other side of Westminster Bridge. Other
local attractions include the London Aquarium (0.1 miles), Imax
Cinema (0.3 miles), Imperial War Museum (0.4 miles) and Lambeth
Palace (0.4 miles).
