Introduction: The Hotel Ibis London Greenwich is almost
by the edge of Greenwich Park, in the heart of Greenwich itself and close to
some popular attractions. This location is just on the south side of the River
Thames some 1/4 of a mile from the banks of that River that cuts through London.
Nearest crossing points are Blackwall Tunnel, Rotherhithe Tunnel and Tower
Bridge. Just over 100 yards from the Fan Museum. Busy Greenwich market is 250
yards just north of the hotel and one of the best markets for arts and crafts
(open Wednesday, Thursday and weekends). 300 yards from the
National Maritime Museum with its extensive collection of sea related
information, exhibits and memorabilia. The famous
Cutty Sark
Clipper ship from the 19th century is moored 0.2 miles from the hotel and the
Royal Observatory is just a 1/3rd of a mile in the middle of Greenwich Park. The
hotel is by the north western corner of Greenwich Park, 74 hectares (183 acres)
or open space and home to a small herd of fallow and red deer. At the southern
end of Greenwich Park is the start point for the
London marathon.
The O2 Arena (was the
Millennium Dome) is 1.5 miles away just by the start to the Blackwall Tunnel and
the site of major concerts and events. Just the other side of the River Thames
on its northern banks is the Docklands/Isle of Dogs area which is perhaps best
known for Canary Wharf Tower. There are restaurants and theatres in the
surrounding area including the Greenwich Theatre which is just end at the end of
the street the Ibis is on (less than 100 yards) and fast food outlets nearby.
Adjacent to the hotel is the Café Rouge which is open all day for tea, lunch,
dinner and snacks.
