Introduction: The Sheraton Park
Tower London, built in the 1970's, stands opposite
Hyde Park on
Knightsbridge. This is a fashionable and upmarket area surrounded by
a huge choice of high quality shopping, especially fashion along
Sloane Street which is on the west side of the hotel. There is also
a wide choice of restaurants and bars in the surrounding vicinity.
Two of the best known department stores on Knightsbridge are 'Harvey
Nichols' which is next door to the hotel and '
Harrods'
which is some 400 yards further along the road. This end of Hyde
Park is the site of the barracks for the House Hold Calvary who
guard the British Monarch and
Buckingham Place (0.7 miles from here). You can often see them
exercise their horses in Hyde Park. This location is within the very
centre of London, just on its western edge. Knightsbridge itself is
a major through road as it's part of A4 dual carriageway and so is
bust most times of the day and into the evening. However a taxi is
always to be found along the road and transport links are good as
its well served by buses (routes 9.10.14.19.22.52.74.137.414) and
within walking distance to 2 tube stations, Knightsbridge and
Hyde Park Corner. To the rear of the hotel is Belgravia where
many foreign embassies choose to locate. Its also home to one of the
most expensive areas in the UK to live, Eaton Square. Other nearby
places of interest are Apsley House a.k.a Number One London (0.3
miles),
Wellington Arch (0.3 miles),
Albert Memorial (0.6 miles),
Victoria and Albert Museum (0.7 miles),
Serpentine Gallery (0.7 miles),
Speakers Corner and
Marble Arch (0.7 miles).
A big plus for some guests is that the hotel has its own casino, the London Park Tower Casino.
