Introduction: The Knightsbridge
Hotel London is located in an affluent and upmarket area and in a
central situation. Although the SW3 postcode normally means its the
area of Chelsea, this part of SW3 is slightly north of Chelsea in an
section known locally as Brompton and part of the Knightsbridge
shopping district. Beaufort Gardens is a small side turning (lined
with trees) and being a dead end means there is no through traffic
reducing the noise sometimes experienced along the major roads. Walk
to the end of Beaufort Gardens and you are on the major shopping
road of Brompton Road. Turn to your right and within 150 yards is
the internationally known
Harrods department store which is a huge building nestled
between smaller shops and boutiques. Turn to your left and within
250 yards on the right hand side is the Brompton Oratory, the second
largest Catholic church in London and which dates back to 1884. The
very central areas and London's' West End (major nightlife area,
Piccadilly Circus) is to the east of the hotel. At around 1 and half
miles form the hotel and a little too far to walk but just a few
minutes by taxi or 3 stops from Knightsbridge tube station (walking
distance at 1/3rd of a mile from the hotel). Perhaps the best
feature of this part of the capital is that
Hyde Park is just 600 yards to the north. This is the southern
edge of the park and where wellington barracks is located which is
home to the Household Calvary (they guard the queen and
Buckingham Palace). Being a mounted regiment they are often to
be seen either excising their horses in the park or on their way to
the Palace (1 mile). Sloane Street with its chic boutiques and
designer shops is 0.2 miles to the east and the
Kings Road, Chelsea is half a mile to the south. Other local
places of interest include the Victoria and Albert Museum (0.3
miles),
Science Museum (0.4 miles),
Albert Memorial (0.5 miles),
Natural History Museum (0.5 miles) and the Royal Albert Hall
(0.6 miles).
