Introduction: The Base2Stay Hotel
Kensington occupies a location slightly to the West of the centre of London.
The aparthotel opened in April 2006 after being re-branded and modernised. Situated between South Kensington and Earls Court, Courtfield Gardens and the surrounding
roads are very much residential and upmarket in nature and of Victorian and Georgian type
townhouses. Having said that the almost adjacent Cromwell Road is one of the
major rods into London. Its actually part of the A4 and gives direct access out
to Heathrow Airport and the M4. You'll also find it makes hailing black
taxi very easy as there's ways many taxis going into and out of London via this
road. There are plenty of shops in the nearby local roads including a
Sainsbury's supermarket on Cromwell Road and a major shopping street along Earls
Court Road just to the West of the hotel. There's a good selection of bars and
restaurants locally including places that serve breakfast. A well known private hospital, the
Cromwell Hospital, is just a 200 yard walk to the North. The two exhibition
centres in this part of London are close by at Earls Court (0.4 miles) and
Olympia (0.8 miles). Other nearby attractions include
Linley Sambourne House
(0.6 miles),
Natural History Museum (0.6 miles),
Hyde Park (0.7 miles),
Leighton
house museum (0.7 miles),
Science Museum (0.7 miles),
Kensington Palace (0.7
mile), Royal Albert Hall (0.8 miles) and the
Victoria and Albert Museum (0.8
miles).
Hotel:
Base2Stay advertises itself as hybrid between a budget hotel, boutique hotel and
and an apartment. This mean the services you really need are included while
extras such as a bar and onsite restaurant are not included. The building itself is a converted townhouse. The hotel was
totally refurbished after being re-branded and is modern and contemporary
throughout. The aparthotel
has a no smoking policy throughout though a few smoking rooms are available on
request and subject to availability.
Apartments are all serviced studios and features include individually controlled air-conditioning,
wall mounted flat screen cable TV (includes internet access, music files, games
and pay-to-view movies), free WiFi, direct dial telephone
with voicemail, safe, windows that open, spare power points, microwave, coffee
pot, fridge and kitchenette. The TV is
also part of the hotels online directory with lists of local stores and
restaurants where you can order takeaways food and deliveries of other items.
All bedrooms have en-suite facilities which may be a bath, wet rooms or large
power shower and have supplied toiletries along with a hairdryer. Beds come with
comfortable duvets. Rooms also have a desk with a workstation just below the TV.
Rooms are also decorated with works of art by Peter Lavery. Its also worth
noting that the beds are deliberately designed to allow luggage storage
underneath to make the most of available room space.
Maid service every day.
Room configurations include singles, bunk beds for 2, standard doubles and
twins, superior doubles (larger than standard), deluxe rooms and rooms that
accommodate 3 adults. Some rooms come with a futon for an extra guest.
A
