Out and About: Knightsbridge is one of the better areas
in central or outer London with excellent amenities at the high end of the
scale. The area borders the southern side of Hyde Park which means The Bulgari
Hotel London is just yards from this huge park which also incorporates
Kensington Gardens. There's more than just a park here actually with lots of
sport such as tennis and horse riding available as well as the central
Serpentine lake with its boats for hire. Knightsbridge a large number of trendy
and chic boutique shops along with lots larger stores. Perhaps the best known of
the larger departments store is the world famous Harrods which is located on
Brompton Road just 300 yards from the Bulgari Hotel. There is no shortage of
restaurants and bars either and the major attraction of Buckingham Palace is
less than a mile away.
Knightsbridge is
an extension of
Kensington
High Street where the shops are more in line with a normal high street and
notably its where you will find Kensington Palace (1.1 miles), the former home
of Diana, Princess of Wales. To the south is
South Kensington and
Chelsea, more upmarket
areas with Chelsea being synonymous with the ultra trendy Kings Road. In short
the area is one of the best in London surrounded by extensive amenities. For the
main nightlife centred around the
West End and
Piccadilly
you are with 1.2 miles.
The Bulgari Hotel - Details
The hotel is a completely new building opened in
June 2012 and is run by
Ritz-Carlton. The interiors are designed by Antonio Citterio while the
architects were Squire and Partners. The site was formerly the location for the
Normandie Hotel which was totally demolished. Originally the new hotel was going
to be called the Knightsbridge Palace Hotel.
The Bulgari Hotel is one of the new breed of "designer hotels". Featuring a
restaurant, bar, spirit room, private holistic spa, 25m swimming pool and
hydrotherapy steam rooms (covering 2000 sq meters). Bulgari has a history
fashioned in jewellery and as such the hotel has a silver theme along with
extensive use of wood and marble. Will have its own smoking shop.
