Introduction: Some 500 yards
north of Marble Arch is the St George Hotel. Situated on Gloucester
Place where many similar type B&B hotels are located. The road is
mostly Georgian terraced and town houses converted into
accommodation either as hotels or flats. The hotel itself is grade
II listed, meaning the building is considered of enough historical
and/or architectural importance to be protected from large scale
changes. The road is a busy major road and busy at most times. While
the main night life is around 1 mile to the south, the surrounding
area is full of amenities including shops, bars and restaurants.
Running parallel to Gloucester Place is Baker Street which has a
casino amongst its large range of shops. Just past Baker Street is
Marylebone High Street a very popular shopping area which has a
village like feel to it compared to many other central London areas.
Less than half a mile to the west is Edgware Road with its Middle
eastern shops and restaurants at the Marble Arch end. All in all a
nice location for access into the central areas while being a little
way from the more expensive locations. The hotel is between two
large parks,
Hyde Park
(0.4 miles) and
Regents Park (0.4 miles). Local places of interest include the
Wallace Collection (0.2 miles) and
Madame Tussauds (0.3 miles).
The St George Hotel Marylebone is a privately owned establishment. Conservatory
dining room open each morning for breakfast.
