Introduction: The Grand Hotel at Trafalgar Square is located right at the top end (north) of Northumberland Avenue yards from Trafalgar Square. Needless to say this is a prime location slap bang in the heart of central London. Northumberland avenue is at the western end of the Strand and adjoins with Whitehall. Whitehall being a road where many government offices are housed and has the entrance to Horseguards Parade where the annual trooping of the colour for the queens birthday takes place. There are always two mounted household guard soldiers at the entrance. Whitehall is also where where the prime ministers official residence is located, 10 Downing Street. 350 yards to the south of the hotel is the banks of the River Thames. All of the best known central London areas are easily accessible from here such as the clubs and bars of Leicester Square (0.2 miles, the buskers and pizza of Covent Garden (0.3 miles) and the adult oriented clubs of Soho (0.5 miles). Being as central as this the surrounding areas are busy at most times and Northumberland Avenue is used a major through road to get from Victoria Embankment to places such as regent Street and north London. There are no shortages of taxis at any time as this is the most central area they operate from and public transport links are good. Other local places of interest include the National Gallery (0.1 miles), the HD screens of the Sports bar on Haymarket (0.2 miles), Cleopatra's Needle (0.3 miles), Cabinet War Rooms and Churchill Museum (0.3 miles), Trocadero centre (0.3 miles), Piccadilly Circus (0.4 miles), London Transport Museum (0.4 miles) and the London Eye (0.4 miles).

History: The hotel occupies a building known as Northumberland House, which was refurbished and restored for its use as a hotel which opened on 6th December 2006. Previously it has been used as offices for the MOD (ministry of Defence) since World War II. Before the MOd took it over it was the 500 bedroomed Victoria Hotel which opened in 1897. The Grand Hotel doesn't actually occupy the whole of the house, just a section of it.
However it is a totally different building than the Northumberland House which stood in this road between 1605 and its demolition in 1874.
Note: The Grand shares the same building and address as the Club Quarters Trafalgar Square but the two are separate entities and the rooms for each are allocated separately.
