Terminal 4 was officially opened in April 1986. With the opening of terminal
4 saw the total separation of departing and arriving passengers for the very
first time.
This terminal is mainly used by British Airways for their long haul and
intercontinental flights and by British Airways European Airline partners.
British Airways European destination cities that also use terminal 4
include:
Amsterdam, Basel, Bordeaux, Brussels, Copenhagen, Geneva, Lyon, Oslo, Paris
(Charles De Gaulle), Zurich.
The car/taxi drop-off area is on the first floor level adjacent to the
departures level. You cannot park here though so use the short stay car park
if you wish to leave the car unattended.
Cash machines (ATM’s) and currency exchange counters are provided both
landside and airside.
There is an information desk on the arrivals level open 06:00 till 23:00.
There is a left luggage service (for a charge of course) open 05:30-23:30.
Located by the Arrivals Hall west end.
If you have a need for posting facilities you will find both a post box and
stamp machine in terminal 3.
Throughout the airport smoking is only allowed in designated smoking areas,
in terminal four this is by the check-in zone E and in arrivals opposite the
BAA information desk. Airside in the departures area there are several
designated areas for smoking as well as by Gates 1-6, opposite World Duty
Free and in some of the airport’s bars and restaurants.
Airlines with self service check-in facilities in this terminal include
British Airways and KLM.
British Airways, KLM and passengers holding an e-ticket from Air France,
Northwest Airlines, Continental Airlines, American Airlines, Alaska Airlines
and Delta Airlines can check in online. However please confirm this with
your carrier.
Shower facilities are available in the toilet areas on the arrivals level
landside and there are further facilities airside.
There are fixed computer internet access console locations both airside by Escada and by Café Uno.
This is in addition to the WI-Fi access that is available throughout all
terminals provided by multiple suppliers.
Public toilets also combine baby changing facilities both airside and
landside. There are 6 baby changing facilities in total. The KLM Holideck
lounge. For a small fee the facilities of 2 levels of the lounge can be used
by children including views of the runway from the Flight Deck and
complimentary refreshments, magazines, interactive toys and games on the
Main Deck.
Terminal 4 also became home for Yotel cabins for short stay accommodation
since
December 2007.
Major car rental companies have desks inside the terminal including
Avis, Hertz, National, Europcar, Budget and Enterprise. Shuttle buses
from outside the terminal service all onsite and some offsite car rental
pickups. Dot2Dot shuttle bus has a
desk here by the car rental desks.
National Express do not operate from terminal 4, you must make your way to
terminal 5 for Gatwick or Brighton and to the central coach station for all
other destinations.
