Linley Sambourne House was the residence of the cartoonist Edward Linley Sambourne who lived here along with his family from 1874. Today the house remains an almost unique example of a Victorian Townhouse with the interior almost exactly as it was during Sambournes’ time. Complete with original wallpapers and examples craftsmanship from this era. Sambournes original cartoons and photography are on exhibit too. Entering the house is almost the start of a feeling of time travel as you experience the feel of a 19th century residence and Victorian life.
After taking up residence Sambourne and his wife decorated in the house in the fashionable 'aesthetic' style of the times. In 1980 the House and its contents was sold to the former Greater London Council, with an agreement that the Victorian Society would run it as a museum. The house is now owned by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
