Built to mark the new Millennium, the millennium Bridge is the first pedestrian walkway spanning the River Thames for over 100 years. The bridge opened in 2000 but was shut for while shortly after when the bridge was deemed unsafe because of its wave motion was crossed by large numbers of pedestrians. This was fixed by adding 37 fluid-viscous dampers. 325 meters long, this steel bridge links St. Paul's in the City of London to the Tate Modern by the South Bank.
