Located on the road called ‘London Wall’ and parts of the original London Wall itself can be seen outside the museum.
In 1975 the London Museum and the Guildhall Museum joined forces to form the Museum of London which is now funded by both the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Corporation of London.
The Museum of London has 7 permanent galleries which include interactive exhibits.
These are:
1, London before London:
Looks at the era before London even existed. Includes remains of one of the oldest skeletons found around London at 5500 years.
2, Roman London:
how people lived, worked and played at the bith of London.
3, Dark Age, Saxon and medieval London
4, Tudor and early Stuart London:
Includes the Great Fire Experience, a combination of models, lighting effects and sound.
5, Late Stuart London
6, 18th-century London:
Includes the gates from Newgate Prison and a cell from Wellclose Square Prison.
7, World City, 1789-1914: Traces the rise of London during its period of
greatest growth in world terms.
