Without a doubt the most common incorrect spelling of any location
in the UK is Stansted Airport, which is so often written as Stantead Airport.
The
added 'A' is incorrect. The situation is all the more confusing because Stanstead actually exists as an area
and is located between Cambridge and Ipswich. The distance between Stanstead and
Stansted Airport is
around 30 miles (48 km). The confusion does not end there however as
there's another Location in the UK called Stantead Abbots which is
between Harlow and Hertford (around 13
miles (21 km) from the airport) and yet another area called simply, 'Stansted', which is
located in South East England in Kent and is around around 45
miles (72.4 km) away from the Airport. The airport itself is named after
the nearby village called Stansted Mountfitchet which is just under 2 miles from
the airport.
