Stansted Express

1: The Stansted Express.
The Stansted Express is a train service that runs between Stansted Station just below the main terminal using Class 317/7 EMU trains. Its run by train company 'ONE' (formed in 2004) who themselves are owned by National Express. The route terminates at London Liverpool Street Station in the City of London after making a single on-route stop at Tottenham Hale Station. Tottenham Hale is on the underground system and so may be more convenient for you than going further on to Liverpool Street Station. Also this service only serves East London and the City of London. It is highly likely you will need further transportation of tube links for central London.

At the airport once you come out of the arrivals hall the stairway and escalator to the underground station is clearly marked straight ahead of you and by the entrance.
Trains run every 15 minutes and the journey takes around 45 minutes.

FROM STANSTED: Trains start running from 5.30 am on Monday and Fridays and 6.00 am on all other days. The last train is 00.30 on Friday, Saturdays, Sunday and Mondays. 23.59 on all other days.

FROM LIVERPOOL STREET: Trains start running from 4.55 am on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and 4.25 am on all other days. The last train is 22.55 (except on Thursdays and Fridays when it runs till 23.25)

When travelling FROM Liverpool Street Station tickets must be purchased before boarding the train since you need a ticket to get through the entry barriers to to the platform. All three stations on the Express route have dedicated machines for tickets to board and travel on the Stansted Express train. These are clearly marked.

Most trains on this route have facilities for buying refreshments. Everything is consumed at your table with a choice from hot and cold beverages, alcoholic drinks, cakes, biscuits and sandwiches.  The seats are either around tables or the type you find on aircraft with their own little tables.
Its worth noting that cycles cannot be taken on the train unless folded or flat packed.
Trains have accessibility features such as special seats and toilets for disabled travellers.

Your airline may provide further discounts such as the 10% offered by easyjet.

To complete the journey into central London you will need to transfer onto a tube train. Lines running from Liverpool Street are Hammersmith & City, Circle, Metropolitan and the Central Line. Of course you can also take a taxi from the outside rank.
