Dublin has a population of over 1 million people and is situated on a river, the River Liffey (An Life). The River Liffey divides Dublin into North and South. Most of the sights and commercial centre, including the Central Bank, are located on the south side around Grafton Street and St Stephenson’s Green, otherwise known as the ‘Georgian heart of Dublin’. The north side city centre contains many shopping streets as well as some of Dublin's finest buildings, such as the Customs House and the Four Courts. It is best explored starting from O’Connell Street and heading for Parnell Square.
