| Rated 4.2 out of 5: the staff were lovely and very accommodating to our every need. We were able to leave our luggage for the day so we could visit London and the room was very clean. Would return but I did feel it was a hotel for couples and not families. Rated 5 out of 5: My daughter and I visited for the Olympia horse show and find London a bit overpowering, but couldn't have found a friendlier place to stay. Reception staff were ultra welcoming. A refurb meant no breakfast room and no cooked breakfast, so we had been automatically upgraded to a suite. Continental breakfast was delivered to the suite on time, and we could make our own hot drinks in our kitchen. Plenty of food for both of us. The suite was warm and cosy (snow and ice outside) and extremely clean. Comfy beds. Comfy sofas and tv. Lovely bathroom. Very handy for the tube station and Earls Court Road. Ate at two different restaurants for our two evening meals - good choice and not too expensive. Reception offered to keep our suitcase for the day whilst we went to Olympia, which we accepted. It was more convenient and immediately available when we went back for it. All in all, very good value for money and highly recommended. A past guest at the Amsterdam Hotel awarded it 4 out of 5 saying: his was my first time in Europe and after 4 great nights in Edinburgh (See Clarendon Hotel Review) i headed down to London for 3 nights. A friend of mine who lives locally had arranged to show me around so i booked a double room so that he wouldn't have to commute back and forth. We arrived at the hotel and a middle aged woman (I'm guessing Judy?) said to me the room wasn't ready but they'd hold my bag whilst we had lunch (It was 12pm and check in wasn't until 1pm) So off we went and an hour later came back. We had a room on the 3rd floor (Room 18) with 2 double beds and it was much more upmarket than i expected! Especially for the price! Beds were very comfortable and of good quality, The floors were wooden and it looked like the room had been renovated maybe a couple of years ago. I suspect though our neighbours might have been able to hear us walking on the floor but then again i never heard anyone above me on the 4th floor! Decent size tv with free to air and a few cable channels (About 12 all up) The bathroom had a bottle of Gilchrist and Soames Shampoo and Body gel and the soaps were Gilchrist and Soames too, The hotel had a beautiful little garden/backyard and a computer room that could be accessed 24 hours for the use of all guests for free (Next to the laundry in the basement) I really felt like i was staying in a local home it was great! The stairs are a little steep though so be prepared you'll get fit walking up and down them! I did notice too that yes some areas do smell of smoke, i'm guessing smoking rooms must be on the 2nd and 3rd floors! The rooms are all key operated so just remember to lock them before you go out as the door doesn't lock manually! I nearly got caught out doing that a couple of times (Silly me) The lift is very old and as people say it's one of those manual ones you have to literally pull the doors closed yourself. Kind of gave the place more charm! The reception is 24 hours and all staff i came across were pleasant, Couple of Indian guys and Judy. The area of Earls Court felt very safe and there are numerous pubs, restaurants and chains (KFC etc) nearby for eating! The tube is literally 2 mins walk away! I'd be very happy to stay here again! I highly recommend it to any first timers! Liked: Location and the really nice room, Disliked: Walls maybe a little thin but then again it's an old house! |
