Rating out of 10: 1 Date stayed: August 2006 review: Awful! Room was tiny and dirty. Lift miniscule. Door locks very questionable. I hated every moment Rating out of 10: 1 Date stayed: October 2005 review: We booked this hotel through lastminute.com. It rated the Brunel Hotel as 3* and said "this comfortable hotel is committed to high service levels". This is the worst hotel I have ever seen, The man on reception showed no welcome. My 7month pregnant girlfriend and I booked a double room for 2 nights - the room he gave us was on the 4th floor and the lift was out of order - if that wasnt bad enough the genaral decor was plain, dull and in desperate need of doing up. As we got to our room via several open cleaning cupboards - we managed to squeeze into to narrow room door. The room was awful - Like a box. The 'double bed' was 2 singles pushed together, the bathroom was like the size of an airplane loo. After complaining that the bed was not suitable he offered me an alternative room....on the lower ground floor! This room was even smaller and again had 2 singles pushed together as a double with one side of the bed up against the wall. After about 20mins of deliberation we walked to the nearest hotel ( 10x nicer might I add) and booked 2 nights there instead. We just checked out of the Brunel and that was that. Man on reception didnt give a damn. Worst experience ever with a hotel, cant express that enough. Rating out of 10: 1 Date stayed: May 2005 review: We didn't get passed the reception, despite booking the room two months prior & reconfirming two days before arrival. Hotel had arranged an alternative (2 miles away), but staff failed to understand our disappointment (and unwilling to locate to a much closer hotel), as we had arranged for a friend from USA to stay in a nearby hotel! Brunel Hotel will not get a second chance from us! But the rest of London was great:) Rating out of 10: 1 Date stayed: October 2004 review: We had terrible problems at this hotel. Our rooms were not available despite booking well in advance. They had contact details for us but failed to give us any notice of a problem. The staff made no genuine apologies and made us wait an hour and a half for a management representative. We were transferred miles away from the venue we were attending and they failed to organise adequate transfers, despite promising this. We were late for our awards night and did not get back until 4.15am (the event finished at 2am). We were then woken at 8am by Brunel hotel staff wanting payment cleared. Staff were completely incompetent, had communication problems and were very unhelpful. Rating out of 10: 6 Date stayed: March 2004 review: We've stayed at the Brunel twice, once in 2002 and again in 2004 and always found it to be a pleasant experience. It's not the Ritz Carlton or even a Hilton for that matter, but the rooms are clean and the staff was polite and generally attentive to our needs. You'll have a 50/50 chance of the lift working, as it was consistently broken down, and they kept turning off our ability to make long distance calls which was somewhat of a nuisance. The bathroom sinks are tiny and oval shaped so i had to turn sideways to shave. Those are the only negatives I can think of at the moment. The Continental Breakfast selection was better than most United States hotels, and you have the option of a hot breakfast for a reasonable charge. We're returning to London in March of '05 and are staying at the Royal Eagle hotel up the street, because it was a part of a British Airways package the Brunel does not participate in, and my hopes are that the Royal Eagle will provide as nice a stay as the Brunel!
