| Rated 4 out of 5 : My wife and I stayed at the Comfort Inn and Suites at King's Cross/St. Pancras. We had chosen it because of its location: you can travel to King?s Cross from Heathrow by Tube (for less than ?3 with an Oyster card) and Eurostar leaves from St Pancras. It was also one of the few small hotels in the area which had an elevator, not that it mattered much since our room (108, I believe) was between the ground and second floor. Yes, the room was small, a normal old-fashioned hotel room which had lost 1/3 of its surface from the addition of a modern bathroom and some space for a microwave, tea and coffee?maker, etc But we just wanted a room to sleep and that was perfect: quiet, comfortable bed, well-heated during a cold spell, very clean. I really do not understand some of the reviews I had read before booking. The staff was always very helpful: when I thought my TV remote did not work, the desk clerk came to our room and showed us the (admittedly complicated) working of the TV set. The only thing which did not work was the safe, and I was told room safes were being replaced and the hotel was safe (it was). Continental breakfast was very good: coffee, juices, pastries, cereals, hard-boiled eggs, etc. Yes, the breakfast room is small, but we never had to wait for seats. Finally, one can leave one's luggage in a locked closet, a boon for those who, like us, planned to take an evening Eurostar. We will definitely book at the same hotel for our next trip to London. It is good value for the money. Rated 3 out of 5 : We went up to stay 1 night in london as we were going to a gig and it would be too late to get the train so decided on a hotel. The hotel itself was quite easy to find down a side road, just around the corner from Kings cross underground station. Getting into the hotel was a bit confusing, no keys etc, press a button and reception will let you in... it is 24hr. Check in was quick and efficient, fill out a simple form then you get your room key. The hotel is very clean and quite bright and warm. Although the stairs are very narrow. Once in our room we had a look around. We unfortunately had a back room which looks out to backs of other buildings which are VERY run down. The room itself was a nice size for the two of us, but would have expected bigger as it has a kitchenette. The bathroom is a great size!! Highlight of the hotel!! Only has a shower though, this was not a problem for us, we prefer showers. The shower was very big!! The bed was extremely comfortable, and when we got back from the gig we had a great night sleep. Only problems we came across were the heating in the room did not work. There was an in room safe but unfortunately it did not work as someone before us had not reset it!! So now I guess it will be perminently closed as only 1 or 2 people know the code!! Also the tv remote didn't work so before going to sleep we watched a bit of the olympics and had to get up again to turn it off! The hotel felt safe due to the security system. Another problem was on checking out, we were told paying by credit card is fine if we were waiting for a new pin number as long as we had ID. When we went to pay, the person said the machine wouldnt accept it. therefore we had to pay cash and card which left us short!!! Due to the not so good check out, I dont think we will be returning again. It was a nice hotel, but not worth the price. There are better value hotels out there. Rated 3.9 out of 5 : Liked: Close proximity to underground, and accessability to all major tourist attractions. Disliked: If being offered as a two bedroom suite/apartment, second bedroom needs a proper double bed not a fold out, and possibly a door between the two rooms. The bedding on the second bed (doona/quilt) was too small, and cover felt soiled. Overall: Overall the accomodation was adequate, staff friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was fine, with all tastes catered for. Rated 4.5 out of 5 : Appeared small and a bit poky at first, although welcome and customer service excellent. Room lovely, surprisingly spacious, with every facility, no view whatsover, but irrelevant for us as on a sightseeing break, arriving back at hotel late and leaving early next morning. Leaving luggage facilities excellent, as was proximity to Kings Cross. Sheets lovely and crisp and clean, exactly what you need after a hard day's sightseeing. Not cheap for services, but reasonable. |
