| A Continental Hotel guest rated the stay as 4 out of 5 and wrote: I first stayed at the Continental in 2008 due to it's proximity to Heathrow Airport by tube and the reasonable rate garnered online. I booked a superior double room and was very pleased with the room upon arrival. As I was traveling alone, I decided to stay in for the night & dine in the restaurant. I had a v. good meal, great service and slept soundly. My husband and I decided to book a second time when on our way back to California from Ireland. Unfortunately, he had broken his leg on our trip and was in a cast w/crutches. When we arrived and got to our room, the room was smaller than expected. I went to reception and asked if there was a larger room available due to the fact that my husband had limited mobility. Joanna was very gracious and accommodating and kindly upgraded us to a larger room at no additional charge. We ate at the 29 restaurant that night, which is on-site. My husband had duck & it was v. good. I ordered Sea Bass and it was a little 'fishy' but London is not the best place for fish in general. The sauce was great, as was the sweet potato gratin. Our server was v. sweet and attentive. We never tried the breakfast. Overall, this hotel is great for the price. Modern decor, hospitable and accommodating staff and a nice restaurant for an evening meal. If you don't want to take the tube, a taxi ride is 20 GBP to Heathrow. It's a little far by taxi but by underground it's just minutes. The hotel is only one block from an underground station and then it's just 7 stops to Heathrow. Rated 4.3 out of 5: Clean. Friendly staff. Heating/air conditioning efficient without being noisy. Problems dealt with efficiently. The room safe was locked with no instructions on how to use it. We misheard the code given to us by reception which led to us locking it permanently so we had to get a key to use it. Overall: Breakfast for what they claim is a four star hotel was disappointing in both quality and choice. Continental breakfast was a choice of coco pops or cornflakes, some cut fruit, leathery pancakes (these should be stored in a bain marie not under dry heat), toast, (no rolls)cold meat, hand cut cheese which had likely been cut some days before as the edges were going hard (it appeared that the remnants of the same cheese was there on the second day of our stay)tea and coffee were served out of flasks and the coffee tasted as if the flask had been used to serve tea at other occasions. I am glad that we didn't pay ?32 for a full breakfast as it didn't look any better. Whilst the staff were pleasant and helpful they were a bit enthusiastic in wanting to clear the tables. Rated 5 out of 5: The hotel (continental) was very good, and the staff were fantastic - really made you feel comfortable and well looked after. The Hounslow area is very very car unfriendly. Parking is expensive, if you can find any. I came back to find a 75GBP fine for driving into a bus lane - wasn't even marked out !! So, my advice is to leave the car at home Rated 4 out of 5: One cricisism is that the rooms are all 'sealed' with the glass window, meaning that it's impossible to survive in the room without using the Air con, which is both noisy and, in my case, undesirable. The room was really attractive and comfortable but the atmosphere within it made it impossible to sleep without the air con on, and I woke feeling lousy. Also, the hotel has quite loud music playing in the corridors outside the room throughout the night. The air con was the only thing that blocked the sound out. Not the best night I've had but an attractive and friendly venue, and the gym is great. |
