| Rated 5 out of 5: Liked: Excellent value for money Overall: Staff were able to sort out any problems that arose quickly and without delay. Rated 4 out of 5: Gateway on M1 convenient overnight business stay for north London. Rooms clean and modern, staff friendly, good buffet breakfast but will do stuff to order such as fried eggs. Rated 4.5 out of 5: Purpose built hotel, spacious, clean, up to date room. The room was modern and not showing any signs of shabbiness. the only slight downside were the pull out beds for children not too comfy, but after a long day sightseeing they were ok. Everything you need for a short stay. Easy to find at the service station on M1. the hotel has arranged a good link with local taxi firm to shuttle to nearest tube. 30 min ride into city. Rated 4 out of 5: Hotel: The hotel is located in a service area just off the M1. We found a great deal online and with breakfast included (only 2 of us travelling, but family room was cheaper!). Parking is free. We chose the hotel as we were away for a few days and wanted somewhere to stay where we could easily access central London but also take the car and keep it safe. The location was a little concern once we arrived in terms of safety of the vehicle, but the car park is well lit and ours was absolutely fine. The hotel is quite new, also has free Wi-Fi, lift service etc. Staff were very nice, always helpful. Travel to London: If your staying here with a view to visiting central London, reception staff will arrange for a taxi to collect you to the rear of the hotel and take you to the station (we used Edgware which is three miles away) for £5. I have to say that the whole taxi service is a little scary when your stood outside Edgware station at 1am and not sure which cab is yours (they're not marked and seem to be the drivers own vehicles) but if your lucky the operator will tell you what type of car is coming to get you, and a capped £5 fee is pretty good. Once at the station you can purchase a day travel card so you can travel anywhere in the 6 zones for just £7.50 a day. The tube runs until about 00.30, and takes about 30 mins to get from Edgware to Leicester square. Not as late as you may like, but you cant have everything :) Food: If it wasn't included in our room cost i wouldn't have paid the £11ish for the breakfast buffet, but i must say it was really nice. Great choice of 'full English', toast, cereals, croissants, juices, yoghurts and fruit. Something for everyone. And again the staff were great asking if you would like more tea/coffee and bringing it to your table. We didn't eat here in the evening, but the menu seemed quite limited with most mains around ?10, with toasted sandwiches etc available for room service at around £5. Room: As ours was a family room it was a really good size. Bathroom was great, decorated really nicely, good shower, plenty of towels, and nice shower gel provided. The bed was a queen so really great, very comfy. Sheets were nice and clean etc. The only downsides were that the carpet was a little grubby in places- just a few coffee stains, and for a family room a real lack of storage- only 2 shelves for suitcases and 5 coat hangers on a rail. Overall: If i had to pay more for the room i may look for somewhere a little closer to the centre if London, but for an overnight stay the hotel is ideal, nice and quiet and incredibly convenient for the motorway. A guest rated this accommodation 4 out of 5 and wrote: I stayed in this hotel over New Years Eve 2007.We had booked the room over a website and since we were 3 people we paid £20 per night and person. This is more than favourable considering the cleanliness of the and comfort of the room and the friendly service. We stayed in another hotel of the same category last time we visited London, incomparable to this one in any possible point. Yes, this hotel is very far off the city but its not impossible to get to town, just takes you a while and you wont depend on having a car as much as people before me said. It takes you around 15 minutes to walk to Apex Corner bus station. You wont have to take the bus to Edgware, take no 113 to Oxford Circus and get off an Hendon Central. From there take the Northern Line. You should get off at Hendon Central also upon arrival since if you get off at Edgware you'll go too far up north. In general getting to the hotel is not impossible and walking through that residential area is not a problem at all. Concerning the hotel being situated right off the M1,Id like to mention, that we didn't hear any traffic noise and our room was at the front side and towards the motorway. Altogether I can say that the long way to get to this hotel is worth it in the end! Liked: cleanliness, friendliness of staff, comfort in general Disliked: public transport connecting hotel would need its own bus stop or at least one that's closer than the existing one! |
