| A guest of the Holiday Inn Express Croydon gave the hotel 4 out of 5 : I have recently become a Holiday Inn Express convert after paying ?80 upwards for hotels that offer average rooms and rubbish food. The hotel is central to Croydon and is a few minutes walk from George Street tram stop. We were greeted by friendly staff who checked us in quickly and gave good info about the hotel. We were given a disabled access room, the bathroom was large, the shower had a curtain to pull round and was similar to a wet room. There was plenty of hot water and the toiletries were those squeezy type on the wall. The bed was comfy but seemed a litlle small, choice of pillows and tea and coffee facilities. There isn't a great deal of hanging space but I imagine most people are only there a few days. The only problem we had was leaving the kettle on the power plate, if it was empty then the element made a burning smell! Unlike other budget hotels there is a hairdryer in the room. It is also possible to borrow an iron from reception who are also happy for you to get more tea and coffee supplies. There is a good sized bar area with a tv and internet terminal, The location is great plenty of bars and restaurants but the hotel was really quiet. It is literally behind Centrale shopping centre that has great shops. This is also where you can park ?12 for 24 hrs. Transport links are brilliant you are 10 mins from East, West and South Croydon stations, fast links to London, Gatwick and Brighton, the tram runs across South London from Beckenham to Wimbledon and there are good bus routes. I love HI Express breakfasts they are included in the room rate, as much as you can eat warm croissants and pastries, cereals, fruit, cheese and good hot drinks and juice. We got a good deal, ?70 for 2 nights b & b for 2 of us so we didn't expect much but we would definitely stay again. It is worth considering this hotel as it will be cheaper than staying in London or Gatwick. One final note for those people who complain about the staff, you tend to find that if you treat people with respect then they will act in a helpful friendly way as opposed to being rude to them. Rated 4 out of 5 : Booked this hotel as we needed to be in the Croydon area for business. Cheaper than Premier Inn for a similar experience and breakfast included. I personally found it difficult to find, probably due to the fact that I don't know Croydon and own an old sat nav, driving at night. That said it is tucked away down an alley off a one way system! Reception and check in was easy and hassle free, we booked and pre-paid online via the Holiday Inn website. Lobby area was clean and tidy, I liked the option of being able to pay for soft drinks and snacks at reception instead of feeding coins to a machine. Complimentary newspapers also available in the lobby, along with lots of info on local attractions. There is a bar and seating area too. The rooms where clean and well presented, however, I found the beds to soft for my liking prefering the harder sofa bed. Bathroom has one of these odd door arrangements sharing the toilet, but is logical. Shower is good, no baths. Parking is at Q park a short walk away, reception will give you a discount card on check out which reduced our overnight parking charge. Breakfast is classed as "continental" buffet, help your self style, and more than adequate. I would stay here again if in Croydon overnight. Rated 5 out of 5 : CLEAN WELL-KEPT HOTEL +FRIENDLY HELPFUL STAFF PLEASANT BREAKFAST AREA+A GOOD SELECTION OF FOOD Overall: VERY PLEASANT WE WOULD USE THIS HOTEL AGAIN Rated 5 out of 5 : The hotel was excellent and very freindly staff. We visted many places while we were in London and found all of them good fun and value for money. We would recommend London and the hotel for anyone or families visiting London. Rated 4 out of 5 : We were attending a birthday party in Croydon and didn\'t want to worry about getting home. I normally avoid Croydon as it can be a bit of a hell-hole. We were pleasantly surprised though to find this oasis of calm. Nice room, good bed, friendly staff. |
