| Rated 3.5 out of 5: A very good budget hotel located above a pub in Forest Gate. The breakfast was good for meat eaters but there was no real vegetarian alternative (so basically a plate of egg and beans). The room was basic and the paint was peeling off in places but it was clean and quiet with a fridge and TV (though no wardrobe or hook to hang your coat on). The (shared) bathroom was not as clean as the room. Rated 3 out of 5: I was scared to book this hotel with all the bad reviews and I was seriously considering staying in a dorm room in a hostel instead for a similar price. So glad I didn't. I booked a single room and got a double bed in quite a large room. It looks like it was painted recently and the carpet looks new. Maybe they have renovated the hotel since the other people stayed here. There is a wardrobe, set of drawers, bedside table, a microwave with a grill, fridge, TV and kettle. I borrowed some cutlery from the kitchen here and a plate. The bathrooms are clean and there is one reserved for females only which is nicely decorated and private. I've stayed in B&Bs and hotels in the UK and this would have to be one of the better ones for the budget price. As I travel regularly I always carry with me earplugs so noise isn't an issue. I can't hear people through the walls and can hear opening and closing of doors occasionally. The street outside has a lot of people with stereos blasting but that is East London for you! The area is a bit run down but there are worse places in London. Nice and warm and has windows that open. The bed is comfortable and there is free high speed WiFi connection in my room. Haven't tried the breakfast yet, will do tomorrow. The pub is a local hangout, no tourists. Don't be scared to book here! Rated 3.8 out of 5: Well... The fact that it is also a bar location... This hotel gave me the opportunity to me very interesting people I have made a friend at this hotel..... I would like to thank you for this.... At first it was the fact that I had a hard time finding it.... Since I did not drive there I had to use underground and buses or train facility.... But when I understood how the network worked.... I would definitely go back there.... Because of the friendly staff and where it is situated.... To have a relaxing place to stay... Thank you again. A Forestgate Hotel guest gave the accommodation 3 out of 5 and said: Forest Gate is quit easy to locate, situated at a bend. It's strictly bed and breakfast. If you value service, this is not the hotel for you. There's an interesting neighbourhood pub downstairs where you can have a drink and meet the locals. When the pub is open, the door that leads to the room upstairs is kept locked to stop drunks wandering upstairs. To get to your room, you've to use a side entrance and take the back staircase to your room upstairs. Every lodger is given 2 keys - one to your room, and the other to open the back door if you come back late. I'd a room in the attic; not much of a view, but lots of natural light. The room was comfortable. There are other rooms (lower prices) where you've to share with someone, but they looked cramped. Bathroom facilities are shared (male/female). The corridors and bathrooms were cleaned everyday, but not the rooms. (The manager said, "it ain't a 5-star hotel.") So keep the room tidy as you can, 'cause you've to live with it throughout your stay. I stayed 3 nights, so I don't know how regularly the rooms get cleaned, really. There's a dustbin in the room and you've to empty it yourselft into a larger one in the hallway. Breakfast had strict timing and was very basic. You can bring in your own food. They're also strict about room bookings; apparently there's steady demand. A downer for me was that the hotel wasn't very near (for me) any bus/train stops, so you either take a 10-min walk to the nearest bus stop or call a cab company. Another downer was having to use the side door - a bit dark and lonely. In summary I'd say I found the facilities and services reasonable at the price. No frills, definitely, but then it's on a budget. :-) |
