| Rated 4 out of 5: I am from New York, and any hotel there with the charm and convenient location of The Gainsborough would cost about 3 times more per night. I had a large, sunny room and a very nice bathroom. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful, but my key card never really worked, which was getting pretty frustrating by the end of my stay. Overall, though, I enjoyed the experience and I would certainly stay there again. Rated 3 out of 5: This hotel is perfectly placed for the museums and is a beautiful place. The hotel is situated in a very quiet street close to the underground and local cafes. The staff at reception were very polite and helpful and we were offered complimentary drinks on arrival. The only problem was the room and corridors could do with bringing up to date. We stayed in a triple room at the back of the hotel so no view but very quiet. One of the beds was broken and was very wobbly and noisy. One of the double wall sockets was also loose and some of the bathroom floor tiles were cracked and ingrained with dirt. There were plently of towels and toiletries for the three of us and the bedding was clean. We didn't have breakfast as it wasn't included in the price(?169). If the quality of the inside had matched the location and the building as a whole I would have given a higher star level. Rated 2 out of 5: I stayed in this hotel for one night on business. My room was tired, with stains on the carpet. There was no hot water on arrival and no hot water the morning after. The windows were drafty and as a result the room was cold. There was also a lot of traffic noise so I did not get much sleep either, which was not good as I had an important meeting the day after. I complained at reception and was brushed off. I over heard the receptionist telling the assistant manager about probably 15-20 other rooms that had complained about much the same things as me, but there was no offer of recompense just an insincere apology. So these were not isolated events either. On a positive note, it is a very convenient location and the breakfast was reasonable. But this is where anything good about this hotel ends and at over ?200 a night, I felt it was pricey and the hotel inspector who gave it a 4 star rating must have been blind! Rated 3.4 out of 5: location, exremely helpful and pleasant staff Bad plumbing, shower didn't work, room quite dirty (carpet spotted, dust and cobwebs in the bathroom) Overall: Would stay again if assured that plumbing would work, and cleanliness attended to Rated 3.5 out of 5: The hotel was OK but the room was rather hot despite a mobile air conditioner and the shower-room was very small. The reception staff were excellent but staff at breakfast less friendly. Rated 3.5 out of 5: This hotel is in a central location and very handy for the museums. The staff are friendly and helpful, but the rooms are quite small, although the facilities areperfectly adequate! |

| Rating out of 10: 10 Date stayed: May 2008 review: We came for Chelsea flower show and this delightful little hotel was just convenient place to stay. The location is ideal and the service superb! I do not hesitate recommending the Gainsborough hotel to anyone. Bon Bouche deli is on the little side street off Old Brompton road. Yummy place to go for paninis. Enjoy London. |
