| Rated 5 out of 5: Thanks to winter weather and resulting flight diversions, we found ourselves staying at this jewel of a hotel about 20 minutes from Stansted Airport in the town of Harlow. The hotel manager was a very friendly chap who, bless his heart, waited around until 4am to check us in after we finally arrived from the airport. The rooms were very nice - clean, spacious, and modernly furnished. Black-out curtains keep the sunlight out far into the day, if necessary. The WC (tub and shower) is ensuite and even has a towel heater :) Opt for the breakfast - you get access to both the continental options and anything cooked that you would like - we both had a delicious English breakfast and a few strong cups of coffee. The restaurant area is cozy with beautiful exposed beams. Attached to the other side of reception is a nice little pub, but we did not utilize it as we arrived at 4am and left by 2pm. From Harlow, it is about a 20 minute train ride into Tottenham Hale, so if you are not wanting to compromise value in order to stay in a central London accommodation or not wanting to empty your bank account just to afford a comparable hotel to Green Man in London center, consider a little trip out to Harlow. This hotel is at the top of our list when needing accommodations in the London area in the future. Rated 3 out of 5: There are lots of good things about this hotel, including the relaxed adjoining pub restaurant with chain-type menu and exposed beams, the good value for money, the friendly and helpful staff etc. The interior is tired but not shabby. I would only stay there in the winter as my room was unacceptably hot. Although the heating was off there was no air conditioning and I believe that the hot watering through pipes around the place (especially the bathroom's towel rail) was the main factor in keeping the room's temperature up. Rated 3.9 out of 5: Liked: Clean, Tidy Warm Disliked: Staff slow to respond in the Bar/Lounge Overall: Generally OK Rated 4.5 out of 5: A good budget hotel. The room was clean, had basic facilities such as tea and coffee and a hairdryer. Apparently the hotel has free wireless internet although neither myself or the receptionist could figure out how to access it without entering credit card details. The staff working on reception were very friendly and welcoming. The quality of the food in the resaurant was high overall, although I had to return my dessert as it was cold in the middle. Also the service was very slow. We were going to have coffees after dinner but gave up waiting. |

| Rating out of 10: 2 Date stayed: July 2005 review: I found this hotel to be in need of a good clean. There was a lot of dust around and it looked like it hadnt been hoovered for a long time. The bedding had a few cigarette burns and the room had a strong smell of smoke even though I had asked for a non-smoking room. I would not recommend this hotel and I would not stay again. Rating out of 10: 1 Date stayed: May 2005 review: About as bad as it gets. Called for lunch. 45 minutes later no lunch. Wide screen TV dominating bar. 10 minutes more to get money back. AVOID |
