Rated 3 out of 5 by a Holiday Inn Express Southwark guest:
I had a similar experience at breakfast. I waited to be shown to a table (as the sign requested) and sat down waiting to be advised by the staff what breakfast arrangements were but I had to ask them. As i was getting my coffee my table was allocated to another couple so I was left standing holding my coffee mug in my hand. The breakfast selection seemed a little disappointing and certainly not what you're offered at a Premier Inn (scrambled egg, sausage, plain yoghurt, fresh fruit, cereal, toast, croissants, pain au chocolat, jams/marmalade, tea/coffee/juice). The self selection area was congested. The room was clean and well thought out. TV reception/choice was good. The reception staff were very helpful: I give them 10/10.

Just had a one night stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Southwark - its a typical HI Express with comfortable rooms, reasonable facilities for the money and a good breakfast included. We were able to check in early, although the friendly receptionist did explain that the sofa bed in our room would probably not have been made up, but we let her know when we went out and it was all sorted by the time we got back. We particularly like the area along the south bank of the Thames and this hotel is really convenient, being a 10 minutes stroll from the Tate Modern. The breakfast was excellent and even included bacon and scrambled egg, which was a bonus! A taxi from London Waterloo to the hotel was just ?5 and it was just over 10 mins walk to Southwark tube station. Every member of staff we met was extremely helpful. All in all, a nice base for a short stay in the city.

Rated 4 out of 5 :
Good value for money and within walking distance of the South Bank
Disliked: Had to queue for breakfast on Sunday morning - but the staff where efficient and cheerful so this ddn't spoil the experience. Oh and the bar ran out of gin & crisps on saturday night!
Overall: I have stayed in many Holiday Inn Express establishments and have never been disappointed. Always my first choice when I need somewhere to stay.

Rated 3.5 out of 5 :
This hotel offers good value for money in a central London location, particularly if the price you pay includes breakfast, as ours did (it's a continental breakfast, but bacon and eggs are included!) Staff were friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. Great spot for visiting the Tate Modern too!
