A Holiday Inn Express Swiss Cottage guest rated the stay at 4 out of 5 :
We chose this hotel based on the many reviews we read on Trip Advisor. As the majority here have said, to us, you can't beat the price for the hotel's cleanliness, location in North london and the included Continetal breakfast each morning! The breakfast was surprisingly good quality, certainly saved us some money in a very expensive city! Being used to North American hotels ( I was born in the UK but have now lived in Canada for the past 20 years), we were surpised at the size of these rooms, they are far smaller than NA hotel rooms and have no real storage space for clothing, so we basically had to live out of our suitcases spread around the floor for the 6 nights we stayed here! We were put into what i would call a 'disabled" access room, which was L shaped, this actually worked out better for us as we had 4 suitcases so there was room to keep these away so we didn't keep tripping over them. My 18 yr old son had to sleep on a tiny floor bed, small and not comfy, whilst our double bed was also small and quite hard. We had a roadside room but we adjusted to the noise levels after a couple of nights. Room was clean though as were lobby area and hallways, someone was always cleaning something. Staff at check in were pleasant and offered to help us get back to the airport if we needed their help. Local mall across the street was handy with a grocery store, pub, a couple of reataurants etc. Tube was a 1.5 minute walk down the street, and we found a nice little pub just up the road called the 3one7, quiet and cosy after a long day walking around the city! We would recommend this hotel, but if you are a family of 4 or more, it will be tight. Looking for luxury with a pool?? won't find it here, looking for cleanliness and value? This is probably the place for you!

Rated 5 out of 5 :
I stayed at the hotel for one night, check-in was easy, staff were more than helpful, they called a taxi for me and allowed me to park my car there for an extra half-day even though I had checked out. The room was very lovely, quiet and clean. I did not have breakfast at the hotel I went to the 02 centre across the road. All staff were lovely and helpful, overall really enjoyed my stay.

Rated 4 out of 5 :
Just got back from a March 2010 trip to London and spent one night at the Holiday Inn Express at Swiss Cottage. I booked this hotel for two reasons: the price and the location, and neither disappointed. This hotel is perfectly located if you want to stay in London without forking over $200 or more a night. I paid $83 using TripAdvisor's search function and was thrilled by how close the hotel was to the Finchley Road tube/underground station-- usually for that kind of price you're a half hour outside the city in some suburb. The hotel is a two-minute walk from the front door of the hotel to Finchley Road on the Jubilee Line, and from there it's a 12 to 15 minute tube ride to Westminster, which is smack in the center of the big tourist areas. There are also quite a few restaurants on Finchley Road that are cheaper than what you'll find in downtown London. I'd recommend Jimmy's Thai Restaurant for a great meal-- the place was full of locals, which is always a good sign. A note on the tube: the Jubilee line is undergoing reconstruction and is sometimes closed on the weekends for refurbishment. This forces you to rely on the #13 bus which runs from Trafalgar Square to Finchley Road and is about a 35-minute journey with a lot of stops, which, I suppose, isn't too bad, though the tube is much more convenient. If you stay here, your best bet is to purchase a 1-day London transport pass for zones 1 and 2 at the underground station. It's 5.60GBP per person and will get you pretty much anywhere you'd want to go on public transit, including the Tower of London, Westminster, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, the London Eye, London Dungeon, Tower Bridge, Houses of Parliament, all of the museums, and a lot more. As far as the hotel itself is concerned, don't expect too much. It's a Holiday Inn Express, so expect clean linens, a reasonably comfortable bed (though ours didn't exactly blow us away), and a clean room. Internet access is 7.50GBP for 24 hours and there are no printing facilities. There are about 7 TV channels and movie channels are extra. The breakfast is continental with no cooked eggs, sausage, or bacon. The fifth floor is the designated smoking floor, and depending on who occupied your room before you, you may have a nauseating stench of cigarettes on everything. We got stuck on the fifth floor and our room reeked of smoke, but the front desk was helpful enough in moving us to a new room that didn't smell. Keep in mind that the windows in your room are NOT sound insulated, meaning that if you are in the front of the hotel, you may get some traffic noise. It wasn't a big deal for us because we were absolutely wrecked after a day of sightseeing, but if you're a light sleeper, it will drive you crazy. If you go to this hotel expecting to get a US-style Holiday Inn Express, YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED. This is not a five star hotel, so don't expect the staff to kiss your feet, don't expect the restaurant food to blow you away, and don't expect the rooms to be luxurious. If you stay here and expect a clean room for a good price close to the action, then you will be well-pleased.

review: My wife and I shared a room for 2 successive nights. The room was designated as a smoker, but an ashtray was not supplied. Similarly, the soap gel dispensers in shower cubicle and bathroom were empty. These faults were rectified following our complaints. The double bed was firm and absolutely excellent. Cleanliness in room, bathroom and main body of hotel was oustanding. Breakfast was adequate. With one notable exception , staff were helpful and efficient. Room had no drawers, cupboards, storage space , room for putting suitcase. Room was far too small and disappointingly inadequate. On the whole-poor value for money.
