| A Holiday Inn Mayfair guest awarded the hotel 4 out of 5 and explained: I booked this hotel through Last Minute.com's mystery hotel deal, and having done this plenty of times and come up with some real jems, I was absolutely gutted to get this hotel, and even more disappointed having read the reviews. We were taking my parents for my dads 70th birthday and I appologised in advance. How wrong was I. The location is fantastic, just over the road from Green Park Tube Station and right in the heart of Mayfair, you wont get better unless you book The Ritz. Upon arrival the reception staff were increadibly polite, friendly and helpful.I explained the trip was for a special birthday and we were given an upgrade. The rooms were both on the 2nd floor and overlooked Barkley Street. They were very large for London hotel rooms, and exceptionally clean and tidy with new towels and good quality bedding. The mattress was one of the most comfy I have slept in apart from my own at home, and on both nights we didn't hear a sound either from the roadoutside or from within the hotel. I agree that the rooms are perhaps in need of a little referb, there were a few lumps out of the arms of the desks chair, and grubby finger marks arund the light switches, and yes the temperature settings had been worn off the shower controls. I dont think the decor was outdated, it was contempory. What made it feel a little dated was an old TV as opposed to a flat screen, which kind of dates the last time the rooms were done. These are however minor quibbles because the stay was great, thoroughly enjoyed it,and lets face it,even if it was rubbish, you dont come to London to spend all day in your room do you. Breakfast was not included in our deal, but this didn't bother us as that part of London is littered with cafes of all qualities and price ranges, and just over the road is Sainsburys, so you dont have to break the bank to eat. I would stay here again definately. Sure you can get more luxurious elsewhere but you would have to pay way way more and probably wouldnt get the great location. Rated 4 out of 5 : We were delighted to be able to check in a little earlier as we had been frantically Christmas shopping since 9am, when we arrived in London. The room was pleasantly located and even had a sitting area by the window, with a nice round coffee table, magazines and two large round chairs, despite already housing two double beds. The decor was fine, furniture was suited to the room and, all in all, it was clean and welcoming. Staff were organised, efficient and courteous and we didn't encounter any attitude problems, as some previous reviewers have identified During our stay, both lifts were working, and, although our room was situated opposite the lifts, there was no intrusive noise from other guests. Location is perfect - very close to Green Park tube station and a direct bus service from Harrods. Very enjoyable stay - an ideal London base, we will definitely return soon. Rated 5 out of 5 : We stayed at the Holiday Inn Mayfair, which was a fantacstic hotel in a brilliant location. Rooms were furnished to a high standard and the staff were very helpful. The food in the hotel was of a reasonable cost, although drinks were quite expensive. We purchased tickets for The Sound Of Music at the London Palladium. The show was fantacstic, and was the highlight of the trip. The theatre is in a good location, close to shops, restaurants & hotels. We ate at a fantastic Italian Restaurant off Regent St, although we can't remember the name. The food was excellent and our children also enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere in the restaurant. Rated 4.5 out of 5 : The bedroom was perfect - it had everything that I needed and the bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was fine in every way apart from the toilet stopped flusing overnight (automatic).....but it did correct itself in the morning, and the hot water took an inordinate amount of time to heat up - but these were small inconveniences. |
