It's the best of hotels and the worse of hotels. The rooms are high spec and modern but there are basic design flaws. The overall room size is large but we entered into a gloomy empty area with no furniture and dark tiled flooring. To the left was a spacious and very well equipped bathroom with a large separate shower. In front was a small area containing a desk with plugs for gadgets. Through this and round the corner was the main bedroom area. The bed was comfortable but there was only one small chair and no table. For a five star hotel this was not good enough - two people should be able to sit down at the same time and have somewhere to put their cups or glasses. All of one bedroom wall was window and we had the 'urban' outlook, which consisted of views of a builder's yard, a storage facility, several 60s tower blocks and a busy road. There was no privacy except by closing blinds. The lighting in the room was the worse we have encountered in a hotel and it was almost impossible to read by at night. The location on the Thames, just across from Chelsea is good with riverside walks. However Clapham Junction, a great transport hub, is about 20 minutes walk away and there is little close to the hotel in terms of cafes or bars. We can see why some people liked this hotel, but we didn't.

Weekend Theatre Break at the Rafayel on the Left Bank
The Rafayel is a beautiful, modern hotel. We stayed in one of their 'standard' rooms and were delighted by its size and luxury; we couldn't have asked for more!. Being quite an active couple, the location of the hotel was not a problem for us - it's about 1/2 mile from Clapham Junction and a good mile from the King's Road - but less active couples may find its location inconvenient. Incidentally, it took us 55 minutes (via foot, rail & tube) to get to our West End theatre. Despite its location, we were delighted with our choice of hotel and, just 2 days after our visit, we've already recommended it to our friends.

I expected more
Starting from the entrance you can tell that this 5 star hotel has had its highest point in the 90ies maybe. The entrance was not clean, the lifts don't sound save the room was tiny and had no view to the Thames. In the evening it was too loud to sleep because of a party in the restaurant. The staff was medium friendly although I have to mention that the shuttle bus driver are very friendly! The Spa area contains a tiny Jacuzzi for a max of 3 people, a swimming pool the size of three bath tubs, a medium warm steam bath and a sauna (ok), that is it! so if you are looking for a wellness weekend don't go there. The fitness area and the relaxing room are o. K. And the location is awful! Although there are nice parts in Clapham Junction the Hotel is definitely not located in a nice area! If there wouldn't be a shuttle bus for free it would be even worse.

Nearly very good
Perhaps we had a bad night, but we felt that staff were just not properly trained nor aware of good customer service. For example, we stood at the reception desk for several minutes before being acknowledged; there were 3 staff present. Two of them, it turned out, were not reception staff and were just hanging around. To a guest however, it just appeared as though they couldn't be bothered. Facilities are very good - we were "upgraded" to an apartment. This was very spacious and comfortable; slightly strange colour scheme and a slightly rushed or unfinished feel, for example, no chair in the bedroom. It's also not located near to an underground station. Although the hotel apparently offers a shuttle service, you would need to have loads of spare time to fit in with their service schedule (which appears to be very rigid even when they have only two people needing it early on a Sunday morning).

What a view!
We stayed here for our anniversary and were pleasantly surprised by the overall image of the hotel. This is a boutique hotel, so is not what you expect from a standard hotel, but that is a big plus. On arrival the hotel looks like an office block, modern and all glass, but beyond the exterior is a very modrn clean hotel, with staff that can't do enough for you. We had only booked a standard 'Urban' view room, but on arrival were upgraded to an apartment, now I can't say that this is a standard thing, but if you can get an upgrade or a room with a river view, then do. The view across the Thames to battersea from the hotel is breathtaking, and even more so at night. I would highly recommend the hotel, and we will stay there again.

Lovely hotel, had gone on other reviews and asked for an upgrade which they happily did. It was my husbands 50th birthday and they had chocolates and a card in the room for us. The only problem was that there was no water pressure in the bathroom so the shower was not usable in the morning and only came on again after checkout! Another couple seemed to have the same problem. My husband has severe arthritis so the hot shower helps his joints: ( Manager apologised and took off the breakfasts as a compensation. gentleman was bringing us to our table and then said oh sorry we have
given your table to someone else we eventually got a table at 9pm after
been told it would be ten minutes no one came to us to say it would be
Longer than the ten minutes or to apologise the owner came to us at 8.45
just to ask were we enjoying our night we told him we were still waiting
on a table since 8 if he hasn't happened to be there or to speak to us
we would probably still be waiting

silver wedding celebrations
The hotel is wonderful - we had a lovely room overlooking the Thames and enjoyed watching the helicopters landing at the helipad next door. We were greeted with a card and chocolates in our room which was a lovely touch. The bathroom was to die for! The shower was amazing - wish I had one like it at home! A fabulous hotel!

Great hotel with good customer service
I didn't know what to expect as I would never stayed here before, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I must have been upgraded because I was given something that was more like a suite than a room - with a huge living area and a Jacuzzi in the bathroom. The staff were friendly and the restaurant was fine.

worth it on the deal
I like a bargain especially if it's at a quality hotel like this. The room was great although not the best view. Customer service on the desk was good. The waiters were very attentive we only had to look roundaround and they would come straight over. The free shuttle service to the station was great and very useful the drivers were always very friendly and genuine The food especially the steak was the best I've ever eaten and the helicopters landing near by was great to see. Free use of the spa and gym was great. Lots of cubby holes in the hotel. An explanation of where everything was would have been helpful but overall a very pleasant stay. I would stay here again and also recommend

Lovely Hotel&restaurant
Great Hotel, our rooms had a beautiful view of the Thames and was right next to the helipad, (not that we could hear anything through the glass) - it was fun to watch the helicopters come in! Impressive room and amazing shower. Would stay again, customer service was great, and the room in the restaurant was scrummy. If its a nice day, definitely check out the roof terrace.

Hotel Raphael
Fantastic view of the river and lovely room - everything clean and well presented. Hotel staff all very friendly and helpful - every seemed very easy and it was an extremely enjoyable stay. The cooked breakfast was a little 'plastic' and tasteless to be honest - but maybe next time we would have the continental instead. I would definitely go back. thank you

Rated 5 out of 5 by a Rafayel on the Left Bank guest:
Came to Ldn for a couple of nights for business, I work for a boutique-style investment house based in Chelsea and thought would give a boutique-style hotel a chance this time. Must say was highly impressed. Hotel has is positioned really nicely on the river (had a good Thames view), and rooms were about four times the size of the best 5 *s I have stayed in in New York and Tokyo but a quarter of the price. This is unusual for London, where I am used to not getting value for money. Met the proprietor in the restaurant, he has clearly cut a unique style for the hotel - elegant, eclectic and sophisticated yet comfortable. Food in the restaurant top quality, and good value too. I think this hotel, restaurant and spar/gym (I am a keep fit guy and was impressed to see a very well equipped gym and managed an early morning river run) has great promise. Will be coming back, especially given a lot of my business is in Chelsea with hedge fund guys and this is a 5 minute cab ride away.

I had the pleasure of holding my 40th birthday celebration with family and friends recently. Mr Latif and the staffs' organisation and hospitality was fantastic. From the moment I mentioned I would like to hold the party within the fantastic Banyan restaurant everything I needed was catered for, above and beyond expectations. My friends had a marvellous time and I had a birthday celebration I will never forget. The drinks and food were top notch and the cake supplied by Baketique (within the hotel) was fantastic together with the flower arrangements. Thank you so much for making this a trully wonderful eventing. As a resident I have also used the SPA facilities and thoroughly enjoyed my massage and facial treatments and will definitely be returning. Thank you Hotel Rafayel

Was very pleasantly surprised with the Rafayel, I am a very frequent traveler so stay in a variety of accomodation,&i would definitely recommend this hotel. Although the 'scenery' of Battersea isn't great, once you're in the hotel, you could easily be anywhere in the world. The decor is modern but not harsh, the mainly European staff (who speak perfect English) are extremely friendly&helpful, but not overbearing, it is extremely clean&comfortable hotel,&the rooms have a deluxe feel, with all Mod cons. All of the wonderful smelling toiletries provided were organic (very important to me)&the mini bar had a good selection. The complementary tea/coffee&the slippers&robes just added that little extra also. The only thing i would say is that not every tiny detail has been thought of, which i would put down to it being a new hotel, not lack of thought. We had to phone down reception for milk&a bottle opener as there were neither in the room,&the hotel info, which is all on the tv menu, not in a booklet, had neccessary info missing. Checkout times were not listed in the menu, nor was the reception/room service number, although there is a button next to the front door with a picture of a maid on there, so maybe that was it? But apart from a few calls down to reception for minor things, our stay could not have been more perfect! We didn't have time to use the spa (much to my despair, but on our next visit, i will definitely be paying them a visit) And as for the valet parking that only cost ?8 for 24hrs (and its out of the congestion zone), what more could you ask for?? :o)
(We paid ?120 for the room for 1 night, which i was more than happy to pay, but this seems to be an introductory offer, i don't know if i would be quite so happy to pay the regular ?250, i would have to compare with other hotels in that price bracket.)
