| Rated 4 out of 5 : What a find, a hotel where the bedroom doors close without a bang that awakens the whole hallway. In fact the whole hotel was quiet, we didn't hear a sound from the adjoining rooms on any night of our 3 night stay. There were many other positives, rich fluffy linen towels, immaculately clean room, although rather small, and excellent restaurant. A few negatives too. Small reception area where a large coloured painting of a gentleman groping a lady at the crotch holds pride of place. Varied service at breakfast, one morning we had to look for a server to place our order and the next morning the cooked breakfast arrived before we had even finished our cornflakes. Sky Sports channels were great but otherwise the TV channels were limited and were completely at variance with the order as advised in the in room newspaper. I think the old addage "could try harder" applies here but overall it is a pleasant hotel if you can get a deal. Rated 4 out of 5 : Stayed here on a long weekend with my other half and our overall impression was a positive one. The hotel is located in a quiet square very close to the Barbican tube station, although we were a bit unlucky in that the station was closed on the Sat/Sun we were there for engineering works. Other tube stations were about 20 mins walk away, so not too bad, plus plenty of taxis available locally. We booked into lunch at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant, which was about 15 mins walk away. There are also several bars/clubs within 5 mins walk, so if you're up for a late night, the location is spot on. Some other reviewers have complained about noise, but this was not an issue at all for us, our room was on the square side of the hotel, which might explain why. We went there on a deal through superbreaks which brought the cost per night down to a reasonable level and breakfast was included too. We ate in the restaurant on the Friday night which was good, albeit the wines were incredibly expensive (hardly any for less than ?30 a bottle), even for London. Breakfasts were great, there was plenty of choice and freshly made hot food, even though we rolled in 5 mins before they stopped serving it. The staff on reception were extremly friendly and helpful, the staff in the restaurant could perhaps follow their example and smile at the guests a little more often (although maybe that was down to us coming in to breakfast so close to the end of service.......!). Our bedroom was of a reasonable size and the bathroom was clean and well stocked with freebies. Flat screen telly, but the picture was a bit dodgy, clearly they haven't heard of hi-def yet ! The bed was not great - it was really hard, so if you like a nice soft comfy mattress, you might not get a great night's sleep ! Overall it was a positive experience and I would more than likely see myself back there. Rated 5 out of 5 : Great train journey on time, clean, helpfull attentive staff. On arrival had asked hotel for a quiet room only to be put next to lift. Ask to be moved, reception fantastic moved us straight away no futher difficulties, breakfast great over all visit fantastic. Rated 4.5 out of 5 : Despite the room being small (it was Central London) I found it extremely comfortable and all the staff were both helpful and competent. The location was excellent as i was working in the city and could easily walk to where I was going each day. The square is also quite secluded which, for the city, was really pleasant. |
