| Rated 5 out of 5: Wanted a luxury night away in town with my family. The room, service and experience was just what we needed. It was extremely expensive (compared with what I would normally spend) but it was worth it. Pool was lovely for a swim with our toddler daughter and we ordered room service breakfast which was tasty and prompt. It was nice to stay somewhere with a proper cot that we weren't charged extra for too. It is definitely family friendly. My only quibble would be that there seemed to be an expensive array of films and tv extras and I was surprised that some of this wasn't included! Rated 4.9 out of 5: Liked: We ordered room service at 2am after seeing in the new year on waterloo bridge watching the fireworks. Our meals arrived within 30 mins and were absolutely delicious!! Disliked: the mini bar is a little pricey. Shorts were just under £5 and £20 for half a bottle of wine BUT this was a treat for us so we had them anyway and enjoyed every drop! Overall: We stayed for the New Year to see the fireworks in the best city in the world! One Aldwych made the whole experience the best New Year my partner and I have ever had. Rated 5 out of 5: We only stayed for 24 hrs. but experienced excellent and attentive service, a lovely room with everything one might need, and delicious food, beautifully served. (Light lunch at the bar and continental breakfast in our room only.) Also the situation is wonderful--only one minute's walk from the ROH and other theatres. We did not know beforehand that it is one of the 'Leading Small Hotels of the World', but are not surprised. Rated 5 out of 5: I chose this hotel to celebrate a special occasion (engagement). The staff throughout the hotel are consistently professional; the quality of the rooms, linen & bathroom are high, the pool and steam room areas although small are a nice retreat from the city bustle. Great location and a cool bar. A well run hotel. A guest to the One Aldwych rated the stay at 5 out of 5 and said: This is a truly wonderful London hotel. The rooms are modern, comfortable and spacious, with superb facilities. It is superbly located - in the heart of theatreland, walking distance from Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery, Covent Garden, Westminster, the Royal Parks, Buckingham Palace and (on the other side of the revier) the National Theatre and Royal Festival Hall - not to mention one of the best views of the River Thames at Waterloo Bridge just a few metres away. This inevitably means heavy traffic all around, but there is almost no disturbance from traffic noise, thanks to the soundproofing of the window glazing. Service is polite, attrentive and helpful. The public areas are stylish, with a great bar, and the excellent Axis and Indigo restaurants belonging to the hotel. We dined at he Axis and had breakfast in our room - the food was very good indeed. None of this comes cheap, although it is worth checking for deals. The only real fly in the ointment was that, when we checked out, the bill (invoice) presented to us overcharged us (in two respects). This was almost certainly inadvertent, and they readily corrected the error. But it suggested a slapdash approach to invoicing, at variance with the overall professionalism of the hotel. But overall - highly recommended. |
