| Rated 4.6 out of 5: The location of the hotel is very convenient, just 5 minutes away from Paddington station and very near to the Hyde Park. Comfortable rooms at a very good price. Staff and Service is excellent. Rated 3 out of 5: The Hotel is set in a row of hotels up and down the street. They all are attached so remember yours!!! You get just the basics which is a bar of soap and towels and 2 glass drinking glasses. The location was fine for someone who had no idea what to expect in London. We easily walked the 3 blocks to the Tube Station and from there you can get anywhere. A few places to eat in this area too. I did have the English Breakfast.....blah... it was something to put in your stomach as you started your day of sightseeing. I guess that makes it a nice touch. Our room was downstairs even though the number was 501, I thought that would make it five stories up! By the way the stairs were a nightmare with luggage! Twisting and STEEP going down... can't recall a banister either!! The view was from in a window well type set up. No view at all! The curtain had to be drawn or the visitors on the first floor could look right into your room/bed. I would recommend this hotel but just be aware that it isn't anything but the basics. When we asked about securing our luggage after we checked out we were shown a room just off the front that easily would allow anyone to wheel away our bags. So forget that option! Unfortunately the bags came with us to the Palace and to the Tower of London....what a pain that was! A guest gave the hotel 4 out of 5 saying: he location on Sussex Gardens was great. Easy access to Paddington Station, Paddington tube station, #15 bus line. Several pubs and restaurants nearby, and a 24-hour food store. Walking distance of Hyde Park, Kensington Palace, Royal Albert Hall (in daytime). Our room for three adults was small but adequate. Beds were clean and comfortable, with extra pillows in the wardrobe, Our room, at the top of several flights of narrow stairs (no lift) was very quiet... no traffic noise at all. Bathroom was small (of course) with no shelf space to set things out, but that was not a major issue. Breakfast (fried egg, baked beans, bacon, toast, coffee, tea, orange juice) was tasty and filling, and the kitchen staff was friendly and responsive. TV in our room had a limited selection of channels, but the programs we did watch were interesting and informative... the equivalent of PBS in the US. I would be glad to stay again at the Orchard Hotel. |
