After spending a week in a central London hotel, we wanted to stay in the Belsize Park area of North London to see friends, but there isn't much choice of hotels. We booked the Premier Inn Hampstead with low expectations but ended up being very pleasantly surprised.
The hotel is actually quite modern and the room was a very good size and extremely comfortable. The bed was large, the room was clean, we had a good-sized closet to hang clothes, there were plenty of towels, we had cable TV and a desk, everything we needed except a room safe.
We ate breakfast only one day in the attached cafe and it was excellent value. It's mostly a buffet of hot and cold foods but you can also order fresh eggs or porridge. It's a chain hotel so lacking a bit in character but given our experience we'd probably stay at another Premier Inn elsewhere in London.
The hotel is 2 minutes walk away from the Northern Line tube station, Zone 2, and you can be in central London in about 20-25 minutes. If you walk up Haverstock Hill from the hotel, you'll reach the lovely neighbourhood of Hampstead with its cute shops, pubs and restaurants, and also Hampstead Heath, London's best park. If you want to be right in the action in central London then this is a bad hotel for you, but if you don't mind having to travel a bit then it's an excellent budget choice.

We stayed at the Premier Inn Hampstead for one night in December 2010 as we were going to a party in nearby Camden Town. We know the area well as we both grew up nearby. The Hotel has been there quite some years but not as a Premier Inn. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and cleanliness of the room ( and of the Hotel). Reception was pleasant and efficient and they even phoned to the room to see if everything was ok. I cannot recall that happening EVER! We had a good nights sleep (our room was on the top floor), and had an excellent breakfast in the restaurant next morning. Several bus routes pass the door and Belsize Park tube station is 5 minutes walk. There is a car park (which we did not use) but that incurs an additional charge.

The staff were wonderful and didn't have to be asked twice for anything. Friendly and helpful. We had a minor issue at dinner one evening where my first choice was not quite right, without any fuss or bother I was asked if I would like to choose something else from the menu. This I did and it was cooked quickly and brought straight out to the table.
The single beds in our twin room were a bit uncomfortable. I am nearly 6ft tall and my feet were hanging off the end of the bed so they could do with being full size singles!
