| Rated 4.6 out of 5 : I loved staying in the wonderful Gilbert Scott building which I have wanted to view for a long time. Very sensitive use has been made of this historic building to provide a luxury hotel with all the amenities that implies. I think the food is rather over priced for the quality. My comparisons would be the National Portrait Gallery for Dinner (and indeed The Hoxton Apprentice), and The Wolsey for Breakfast. Rated 5 out of 5 : Just returned after a Saturday night at the St Pancras Hotel. We went for my husbands birthday and it was fantastic. Having arrived into Kings Cross it was a short walk to the hotel. The only slight blemish was at check in. It was very busy as it was check out time and it took quite a while waiting for our turn. We didn't expect to get checked in straight away but the reception staff were great and gave us our room. The staff and the building are definitely the great assets of this hotel. The building is beautiful and every member of the staff was friendly and had a ready smile. When we returned after our afternoon out there was a birthday cake waiting!! Great attention to detail. We ate in The Gilbert Scott at night and it was easily up to the same standard as the rest of the hotel. Hopefully we'll get the chance to return soon. Rated 3.8 out of 5 : Booking facilities and reception staff. Permitted early access to room. Bedroom comfort Food in Gilbert Scott restaurant was excellent. Maitre d' in Gilbert Scott restaurant appeared overwhelmed by two parties arriving simultaneously. Having arrived first as a pair, we were told, somewhat discourteously, to wait while he dealt with the other larger group. Solution: delegation to other staff. Rated 4 out of 5 : We are gold Marriott members and have stayed at this Marriott property and several other in London over the past two years, on a monthly basis. Overall, we have always been impressed with the level of service and quality of the rooms at the London Marriott properties, and this hotel is aligned with those same standards. My only suggestion - AVOID ROOM 251!!! We were told we had been upgraded to an historic club room, and the person checking us in said it was one of his favourite rooms in the hotel. Sounds great, right? Well, room 251, along with a few other club rooms face INTO St Pancras station - so your window looks down into the station. It's on the 2nd floor, so travellers in the station are able to see into your room if you don't keep your shades closed. You also get no direct sunlight from outdoors. You can hear the trains coming into the station and the announcer's call ALL DAY - until midnight. Then, promptly at 7am you are startled awake by the housekeeping quarters that is directly above your room!!!! You can hear every foot step, cart rolling across the floor, and anytime they drop something - this lasted all morning until 11am - when we requested a room change. Once in a new room (511) it was great. So my advice to you is this if you have a club level room - make sure you request that it has a view of the British Library - otherwise you will have a view of the inside of the train station OR the inside of the hotel's restaurant -either way -you get no direct light from outside and you cannot have your curtains open as people can see into your room - definitely not worth the money you pay to stay in the amazing hotel. Other than the room issue -the service and location really cannot be beat. So many great restaurants around Kings Cross and you can get anywhere you want with the tubes/trains just next door! Rated 5 out of 5 : We recently spent five days at the St. Pancras on our second trip to London. First and last impression were amazement at the beauty and stunning architecture of this property. Although we stayed in the new King Barlow rooms, it was a pleasure to see the historic and beautiful renovations that were done to the public areas and more exclusive rooms. Our adult daughter stayed with us and so a rollaway bed was needed. While not as comfortable as the luxury bedding, they did a pretty good job of making her comfortable. This was definitely a big plus since many hotels , including other Marriott properties will not accommodate a third person in the room. Nice amenities ,and great bedding. The staff had many young people, and while they did not always know all the answers, they were enthusiastic and eager to assist. We were a little wary when booking to be further away from the main tourist areas, and this was our first longer trip to explore London on our own. How wrong we were! Outside the back of this hotel is not only the Eurostar station, but access to at least 4-5 tube lines. All underground access, and also to shops and eateries, so weather is never a problem. We had a fantastic time travelling all over London and the outskirts...so easy!! Rated 4 out of 5 : Two small negative points. 1. It would have been better if breakfast was part of the package. 2. For two glasses of wine in the box office bar before we went for dinner in the Gilbert Scott we were charged 12.5% service. This seems a bit of a rip off! Plus side, all the staff were well trained and enthusiastic about their place of employment. Rated 5 out of 5 : Beautiful room and facilities within. Without exception the customer focus of every member of the hotel staff was second to none. This was easily our best ever hotel experience and we will definitely be back again. |
