| A guest gave the hotel 4 out of 5: checked in late on a friday night after a long days travelling, and was most pleasantly surprised to find a local ( ish) girl on reception ,,, a real geordie i think ,, lol .. room was spotless though a bit small ,, bed very comfortable with a view of old father time.woke refreshed after 9 hours undisturbed sleep and had a lovely invigorating shower then down for breakfast,,, not a cooked one but a full continental spread,,the same pleasant lady was on duty and still smiling .. all in all a very comfortable stay ,,, ohh and the price had been reduced ,, so all in all very good value for money ,, A guest gave the hotel 2 out of 5: I booked this hotel as a stop-over for one night walking along the Thames Path from Shepperton to Putney with a friend. Booking at short notice for a Saturday night, there was a dearth of B&Bs/hotels with twin (rather than double) rooms available in the right area - i.e. as a walker rather than a driver. The hotel was not too badly priced for the location, but reading reviews and from our experience it is clear why. It is located at the end of a street with a busy night life. If you get a room on the river-facing side of the hotel or stay mid-week, this is probably not a problem, but 2 of the 3 twin rooms are at the front of the hotel. It was noisy and the double glazing was not very effective in shutting this out. The room was quite cramped for a twin and the beds were also very uncomfortable. If I had not been so exhausted from a day's walking I doubt if I would have slept well at all! Some previous reviews bemoaned the lack of air conditioning. Although this had been rectified with a stand-alone unit in the room, so that the window did not have to be opened, it was noisy enough from outside to all-but drown the noise from the air con. On the positive side, the breakfast was a good spread for a "continental" (i.e. truly continental style, not just a roll and jam). The receptionist was also very friendly, although we had a shock at first when the booking form she had stated a double room reservation rather than a twin! |
