Rating out of 10: 2 Date stayed: February 2006 review: Much like the previous reviews. Aircon is still shot. Hot in summer, freezing in winter. A clue available when you open the wardrobe to find a portable fan and a small fan heater. 5 star - I think not. Rating out of 10: 2 Date stayed: August 2005 review: The reviews say most of it. This is a 2 star, hot, noisy, run-down, sad hotel. Even the mattress was sagging and needed burning frankly. Apart from location, I can think of little on its side and actually dreaded going back to the room. Do avaoid it. Rating out of 10: 6 Date stayed: August 2005 review: Great location for the shops, parks and theatre. A hotel that is past it's best and lacks investment however the service was good, the room clean and the bed comfortable. The buffet breakfast was good with plenty to chose from. The check in was fast and friendly. If you can get it at a good price then well worth it. Rating out of 10: 1 Date stayed: June 2005 review: Avoid this hotel at all costs. The rooms are unbearably hot. The air conditioning is broken. It was disconnected to the rooms 2 years ago the duty manager informed me. It will not be repaired. The room was impossible to sleep in due to the heat and when you complain the management do not want to know. There are complaints made by the guests on a daily basis the duty manager admits, however Thistle hotels will take no action. This hotel is no where near 4 star it should be regraded. If anyone of authority reads this please note. The 4 star rating must have been attained when the Hotel had a functioning air conditioning system. Rating out of 10: 1 Date stayed: April 2005 review: We were very disappointed. The hotel is totally neglected. Some of staff were ok, especially the "floor care takers". However the rooms are shabby and the furniture very old. Buffet breakfast quite modest if you don't eat the typical English breakfast. My rate for the hotel is 2 star. The location is excellent. You should renovate the hotel. I made the booking through londontown. There it was rated 4 star luxury hotel! Could you change that please. When checking out on Sunday the computers were not working. We had had a couple of drinks (2 glasses of oragne juice and 1 glass of white wine) on Saturday evening. The receptionist told me that the juice is 1.75. If I remember right I signed for 1.40 or 1.20. I don't mind the difference but... We wanted to pay the drinks the same evening but that was not possible!! I am really sorry for those guests who pay the normal fare 160 or 190 £. Rating out of 10: 1 Date stayed: December 2004 review: We stayed at the Selfridge for 5 days in December 04 and were very disappointed. The hotel appeared neglected and the staff were either unhelpful, patronising or outright rude. I imagine the hotel was once impressive but I assume due to a lack of investment in the infrastructure and staff education, the hotel is now a total embarrassment. Here are some of our complaints. Despite arriving on time our room was not ready and so we had to wait for one to be prepared. Two bulbs in the room did not work and were not replaced when asked. The rooms were far too hot; we understand that the air-conditioning has not worked for some time. We found it almost impossible to sleep and when we mentioned this we were advised to open the window. The noise from the traffic in Baker Street makes this impractical. We booked a table in the restaurant on New Years Eve and were told one hour before the sitting that we had been given wrong information regarding the menu and price. (From approx £60 to £120) The room (An executive double on the fourth floor) had peeling wallpaper and holes in the plasterwork. I am amazed that the hotel is classed as a four star. Please read the genuine reviews listed here and avoid this sad hotel. |
