Rated 4 out of 5: This was my second stay at the Cromwell and, I must admit, I've become quite a fan. First, the rooms are clean and very modern. This hotel, like many in London, is a series of refitted townhouses so I like the classic exteriors combined with a comfortable, user-friendly interior. Again, I'll repeat what others have said and admit the rooms are small. That said, we booked a twin room (114) and with the appropriate amount of arranging had no trouble fitting two people, a serious amount of luggage (really, we're both over-packers) and tons of shopping into the space. That said, if you're used to rooms with lots of floor space, you won't find that here...but do you really need all that room? We've found we'd rather trade comfort and convenience for space we're not going to use anyway. The staff at the Cromwell was friendly and helpful with check-in. Just a quick warning: rooms booked via discount sites like Expedia and Travelocity come in as "standard room" requests and may or may not include your preference for a number of beds. If, like us, you insist on two beds, it may be worth it to call the hotel ahead of time and confirm that you've been allotted a room with two single beds. We initially were not but the receptionist fixed the problem immediately. There are two lifts and two sets of stairs at this hotel so you may want to do a little exploring to find the one that is most convenient given your room location. The rooms are fitted with the necessities - hairdryer, toiletries, tea maker, flat-screen TV, towels (our room even had a heated towel rack), etc. They are pretty basic but, again, how much time do you plan to really spend in the hotel? The tube stop is, literally, a block away and you can catch the Piccadilly, Circle and District lines from here. It's about a 30 minute ride to and from Heathrow airport making this a good place to stay on short trips. Additionally, you can find a good grocery store (Waitrose), a quick-stop (Tesco's), a pharmacy (Boots) and a selection of bars, restaurants and pubs in the neighbourhood. (The cafe immediately across from the Tube stop serves a solid English breakfast for about £8 - considerably less than it would cost at the hotel.) Free wireless internet service is included - just pick up a password from reception. All-in-all, I was very happy with my stay here and would stay here again. All central London hotels are expensive but I've found the Cromwell offers good value for the amount paid in comparison to many of its neighbours and the location is excellent. Rated 4 out of 5: Stayed for 1 night. Located on sub-ground floor room which was small but clean and smart. It had all the usual components-tea making, (flat-screen) TV etc. The en-suite was good, clean, smart with walk-in shower. Niggles- a/c was set at 19C minimum-i prefer it cooler- but it was fairly quiet; waste stopper to the whb did not work; whb in daughter's room was cracked although it had been filled. Hotels seem so expensive in London now but I've paid more and had a worse experience. didn't have breakfast as i always feel that these are expensive; plenty of places around to frequent. Rated 4.2 out of 5: Nice Hotel, in one of the most pleasant neighbourhood of London, slightly priced but in the norm for London Hotel. Rooms of acceptable size, very clean and well equipped. Tube station close by. Recommended. Rated 4 out of 5: We made the reservation for this hotel based on reviews on Trip Advisor and I am glad we did. The location could not be beat as it is on the Underground Piccadilly line, Gloucester stop directly from Heathrow. When you get out of the tube you only have to walk diagonally across the street to be in the hotel. (Be aware however, if you have difficulty with stairs there is no elevator to the first level of the tube stop and you will have to carry your luggage up 2 flights before you can take an elevator to the tube exit. )There are shops, internet cafes, restaurants and pubs within VERY short walking distances. We arrived in London at 5:30am on a Sunday and were not expecting to be able to check in to our hotel directly but the staff was very thoughtful and had had a no-show so they gave us a room immediately. We got room 105 and it had a small deck area with a table and overlooked a courtyard in the back of the building. We had the wrong kind of electrical adaptor and the staff directed us to a hardware store a block away to get what we needed. The hotel is totally non-smoking and has free internet if you bring a laptop. If you don't bring a computer and need to get online to check in for your flight, they do NOT have a computer for guests to use for that purpose and you will have to go to the internet cafe to do so. We stayed for 4 nights then left for another country and came back for two more nights. For the second stay there our room was significantly smaller and at the front of the building but we didn't hear much in the way of street noises. The bathrooms are tiny, but that is to be expected in Europe and they were clean and had plenty of hot water. The hotel provides a hair dryer in each room. The hotel offers breakfast for a fee but there are many patisseries and restaurants nearby and even a Starbucks that are much less money. The last morning I asked if we could check out 30 minutes late and a grumpy desk clerk was very rude and abrupt and said no but I won't let one experience ruin the whole time there. A very nice place we would go to again. Rated 4.4 out of 5: Liked: The room was very clean and in a good location. Bathrooms were good size compared to small room. Disliked: The room was very small Overall: It was a nice stay Rated 3.5 out of 5: Location in London is important and Cromwell is located just 2 minutes from Gloucester road Tube station.
The hotel room was nice and very clean. There was a good flat screen TV. Biggest problem was a noise that seemed to come from water pipes. When other guests used water in their bathroom this irritating noise was created. Sounded like a turbine. I slept with earplugs since it irritated me.
Still I found this hotel great for the money. I would stay here again but probably try another room. We anly had breakfat |

Rating out of 10: 2 Date stayed: June 2005 review: Location excellent. However, very disappointed in hotel. Could do with a huge bit of TLC. Rooms and corridors clean but shabby. Rating out of 10: 4 Date stayed: November 2004 review: Triple room's in the basement a bit depressing... clean but badly maintained - cannot expect much more for that price. It's OK if you go out the whole day |
