| Rated 4.8 out of 5: location, impeccable service, attention on details and high efficiency of the staff, true hospitality. a bit expensive, some rooms are noisy Rated 4 out of 5: Positives: great location! a perfect place to explore London from with very convenient access to Hyde Park, Knightsbridge shopping and the major museums. The rooftop swimming pool is great with a retractable roof and amazing views over Hyde Park. Also free wifi everywhere including the gym! Negatives: the decor is very dated and the place smelt as well as felt musty and in need of a real updating in style/refresh (man on table next to us at breakfast almost fell flat on his face as his chair leg was about to collapse!). The service was also very mixed (in a negative way). Be wary of long wait at check-in and the need to seek help when you first arrive. Service at breakfast is very poor with low quality staff for a five star hotel. And a small thing that was really annoying - a member of staff reopening the lifts as the doors are about to shut to go up two floors! Good service means taking the service lift or waiting for the next one. unfortunately the poor service took the shine off the people who do provide excellent service - like the door men. The hotel set up is also strange without a proper lobby and stairs for everything! Great swimming pool, do they have a pair of goggles I can borrow - yes - great until I realise they are children's size! I'm not sure who awards the stars but like a good restaurant, service should be at the top of the list! A guest rated the hotel 5 out of 5 and wrote: We stayed for a night in a one-bedroom suite on the second floor, which had been refurbished. The suite was luxuriously decorated and furnished, and had televisions in the sitting room and bedroom. There was a sofa and armchair, coffee table and desk in the sitting room, with another armchair in the bedroom. There was a walk-in wardrobe which led to the huge bathroom (which could also be got to from the hallway). The bathroom was fabulous, with a very capacious walk-in shower and a large bath framed by faux-marble columns. The Berkeley suffers slightly from being above an underground line, and on the second floor the trains can be heard (and felt): this might not be a problem higher up. Our room also had a rattling fan in the air-conditioning. Lunch in the Boxwood Cafe was relaxed and very enjoyable, with efficient service and good food. Service at breakfast in the Caramel room was a little slow, but there was nothing wrong with it otherwise. The public spaces at the Berkeley are relatively small, but very stylish. The Blue Bar is obviously the place to be in the evening, and is very busy and quite noisy later on. One of the best aspects of the Berkeley is the rooftop terrace, pool, gym and spa. This is very good indeed, and could be a deciding factor in staying here (especially while the Savoy is closed). Overall we were very pleased with our stay, and would be very happy to go back. |
