| Rated 4 out of 5 : Liked: Amazingly quiet for a London Hotel. Slept well Staff friendly and helpful. Excellent location for Earl's Court Exhibition Centre. Disliked: No bar. Bathrooms on the small side. Breakfast room very small and crowded but food good and choice was adequate. Rated 5 out of 5 : Before selecting the Best Western The Boltons Hotel, I read almost all the reviews I could find on-line since I consider myself to be rather "picky" when choosing a place to stay. I was meeting friends who were staying at another hotel in the area which didn't meet up to my standards. So my search began to find a hotel in walking distance from their hotel at a reasonable rate, with nice amenities and great service. In choosing the Best Western The Boltons, I succeeded! LOCATION The hotel is situated literately "around the corner" from the Earls Court tube station in a quiet residential street. One of the best things regarding the location is how easy it is to travel using the Tube (London underground) from Heathrow to Earls Court and then into the center of the city. There are quite a few nice restaurants in the Earls Court area which are worth trying. The Gourmet Burger Kitchen is a great place to have an amazing burger which many toppings of your choice. Perfect for lunch or an evening snack. Zizzi, also located just minutes from the hotel, was a fabulous choice for dinner. Great italian food and friendly service. You'll find all your favorite fast-food places such as KFC, Burger King and Mc Donald's all in walking distance. There are also several small supermarkets, a Boots for all your health & beauty needs and about 30 other small shops. STAFF I think one of the most important things at any hotel is the staff. Being in the retail service industry myself, I am usually quite critical of others when it comes to offering good customer service. At the Best Western The Boltons, this was never a problem. Upon arrival at 10:00 in the morning, they offered to store all my luggage and provided me with some basic tourist information. Andrea, who I would later learn to be one of the managers, was pleasant, very helpful and honest when I inquired about the size of the rooms. During the course of my two day stay, we spoke several times and she was always polite, professional and attentive. She took great pride in the hotel, the customer service awards it had won in the past and the amenities in the rooms. Ivan and Alex "The breakfast boys" were pleasant and friendly even at 8:00 in the morning. Other staff members were also very friendly and helpful even when I had unusual requests such as borrowing extra chairs for my room to entertain friends or replacing batteries in the remote since the guests before me probably stole them. Andrea even offered to show me other rooms so that when I return, I could specify in which room I would want. In my case, one of the reasons to return to this hotel would definitely be the staff. THE ROOMS If you've read any other reviews online, they all claim that the rooms are very small. Guess what, they are! Even when I checked in and asked the manager Andrea if the rooms were small, she smiled and said yes. So if you are looking for a hotel with huge rooms, this is not the right choice for you. But now that we got the size of the rooms out of the way, let me reassure you how nice they are and how well thought out. The rooms all feature Phillips flat screen TV's, an iHome iPhone/iPod dock with remote control, clock radio, a nice sized desk with plenty of electrical outlets for charging all your gadgets (including two outlets that always provide power even when you leave the room) a luggage stand for your suitcase, a powerful reading light above the bed, a very quiet heating and cooling system, a small closet with a safe big enough to store a 13 inch laptop, dimable room lights so you could "set the mood", a nice coffee and tea making tray and a well appointed bathroom. The room I had, number 102, was a single room but I still had enough space to entertain two friends. The bathroom had all your standard bath products (shampoo, body lotion and shower gel). There is plenty of space to place your personal items either under and around the sink or on the wall shelf provided. The mirror in the bath did not fog up even after the steamiest of showers. My room had just a stand-up shower, no bath tub, but that's actually what I requested so it was perfect. My room was on the first floor facing the street and had two windows which provided lots of natural light. Street noise was minimal but if you are a very light sleeper, you may want to request a higher floor. The room was extremely clean, all the furnishings were new and nothing was damaged. The FREE WiFi worked everywhere in the hotel which was really handy. I had multiple devices with me (MacBook, iPhone and iPad) and the reception provided me with a code for each one without any problems. BREAKFAST As I mentioned above, the breakfast staff (Ivan & Alex) were friendly and attentive. The breakfast offered a combination of warm and cold favorites. Scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon (although I would have preferred American streaky bacon) hash browns, tomatoes, beans, fresh fruit, fruit salad an assortment of breads, yogurts, cereal and other breakfast items. Like the rooms, the breakfast area is small but well designed, clean, lots of natural day light and during my stay it was never full although all the rooms were occupied. MY FINAL THOUGHTS At the end of my two day stay, I was very pleased to write this review and take a moment to compliment the staff and management in offering a fine hotel, especially considering the price, room amenities and location. The rooms are not large but well appointed, extremely clean, well designed with lots of little extras such as the iPhone/iPod dock, flat screen TV, dimable lighting and FREE WiFi. The bathroom was also perfect with all the basic bath products, modern Grohe fixtures, plenty of space for toiletries and well lit. However my main reason to return to The Best Western The Boltons is the hotel staff. So if you're looking to stay in the Earls Court area then this is a perfect choice especially if you compare it to some of the other hotels in the area. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised! Rated 4 out of 5 : I stayed at The Boltons for 8 nights and I definitely enjoyed my stay. I was in London for some personal business things so I was typically out almost all day, but I really felt at home when I came back to the hotel. The room was small but perfectly clean, the bed (a double) was REALLY comfortable (only maybe a little bit not long enough if you're tall - I'm not), there were four pillows and the sheets and covers were really good. The room had a midsize (not small at all) flat screen, a big safe that could fit a 13" laptop together with camera, money and other valuables and the lights were perfectly organized. The bathroom was relatively generous compared to anything else in the building and again perfectly clean and practical. I didn't find the bath controls confusing as others have mentioned, but there is indeed a big problem with the water temperature fluctuating a lot. Tea/coffee facilities in room. No slippers/bathrobes, at least in my room (maybe available on request though). They also have 24/7 room service, which is surprising for the size of the hotel. The "lobby" is easily the tiniest I've ever seen, 20square meters at most, so is the breakfast room. Again, breakfast was certainly not as bad as other reviews had lead me to believe, but it's nothing to dream of and the room is SO packed with people every morning that I wasn't always really in the mood to have breakfast there, even though it was prepaid. BTW, one person who works there (i don't want to mention name or gender) can look like he's annoyed by your existence sometimes, but the girl that was there every morning was really helpful. Reception staff are very good and could help with everything and at all times. I must not forget to mention the free internet (some days worked at lightning speed, others was slow) and of course the excellent location next to the entrance to Earl's Court tube station. Right on the Picadilly Line (which means on the line that goes to Heathrow and the city center), you can easily commute the way millions of Londoners love to do every single day. Just don't forget to get an Oyster card (just under 30gbp for unlimited rides in zones 1 and 2 for 7 days, buses and nightbuses included) or you'll end up paying a fortune. You need two minutes at most to get from the hotel to the station, and in those minutes you'll pass a Marks & Spencer, Subway, Burger King (open till 2am), a great pub, chinese restaurant (I tried it, it's good) and a couple of ATMs. Nightbuses stop right outside the station, so you have those too. Clean up was good and the room was always left extra clean, BUT they didn't check well enough to replace teas I had used and other stuff like that. I had to ask for extra teabags and found them in my room when I came back, so no harm there, just something they could easily fix. BTW, there's a strict no-smoke policy in the hotel which results in the rooms smelling really nice. On the whole: the hotel is spotlessly clean, small but really comfortable, it's definitely not in the center of the city but commuting is easiest thing in the world and the prices are very good. So my advice would be that you should avoid huge, dirty, outdated and overpriced central hotels and choose this one instead. |
