| Rated 3 out of 5 : We paid ?49 for one night at the Highwayman and I was a bit worried when I read the reviews but we were getting an early morning flight and needed somewhere to stay that wasn't too near the airport and not too expensive. The staff and especially the receptionist were very friendly and when we got to our room it was a lovely 4 poster. The decor was really nice, the bathroom slightly dated but all clean. The food in the restaurant wasn't particularly good, mostly a carvery with veg standing in bowls of water which put me off a bit. The meat looked nice though. We had something from the menu. If you get there early there is a nice walk down to the town where there are shops and an old Priory. I don't know what the other rooms are like but we definitely had a lovely room. Rated 3 out of 5 :
My niece was getting Christened and we needed a
place to stay near to the church. I stayed in a twin room with my daughter. On arrival we were greeted politely and helpfully. The room was adequate and the bedding and towels were all immaculate white and the bathroom was pristine. The radio alarm we couldn't work out how to program the alarm, not sure if it was working right. We mentioned it at reception on checking out and were told they would look into if it needed replacing. The corridors and room had artwork on the walls so not unpleasant. One picture needed new glass but out of maybe 100 pictures can't say that's too terrible. The carvery was average and the breakfast wasn't quite ready at the time stated. The coffee in the urn was awful but there were sachets of Nescafe and hot water so not a disaster. Liked: Convenience for family event Disliked: The coffee in the urn rated 3.9 out of 5 : Excellent breakfast and good bar prices Disliked: Some fittings a bit tired Overall: Good Rated 4.5 out of 5 : I booked this hotel as it was the closest one I could get to a sold out concert at Milton Keynes Festival Bowl. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel and its location. It has a family pub next door which gave very friendly service and had a decent, value for money menu. This is also the restaurant that provides the breakfast in the morning. With regards to that all I can say is WOW! Rather than it just being a set buffet style breakfast, there is actually a extensive menu to choose from, along with the usual pastry's, fruit salad, cereals and juices laid out for you to choose. I had to call the hotel before my reservation date with a few requests, and found the staff really helpfull and nothing was too much trouble. If you need a hotel for the Festival Bowl and find the closer ones fully booked, I would recomend The Highwayman. The Bowl is about a 40 minute cab journey away. |
