| Rated 4 out of 5: We stopped overnight, being on a rapid fire weekend in London to visit the opera (Royal Albert Hall) and see the sites. We arrived at 9.30am and were pleasantly surprised that we could check in 4 hours in advance. The hotel has a choice of smoking / non smoking rooms and is currently seeing refurbishments made to some rooms. Our 4th floor room was adequately sized for one night, but may have proven a little cramped for a longer stay. It had a comfortable king sized bed, multi screen TV and en suite bathroom. I would have liked to see more towels provided though as 1 bath sheet and 2 hand towels are not sufficient for 2 people. The room (410) did not overlook Bayswater Rd and Hyde Park, so was very quiet, however the plumbing may prove a little noisy for light sleepers. Breakfast the following morning (£10 per head) was delicious and plentiful. Omelettes, English cooked breakfast, cold meats and cheese, pasties and croissants, kippers, eggs benedict, muesli, fruit, yoghurt etc, etc. All quality ingredients, freshly prepared and cooked to a good standard. The hotel is ideally situated for Hyde park, the Tube, and a 15 min walk can get you to the museums, Royal Albert Hall, Notting Hill , Marble Arch, Speakers Corner or Oxford Street. The only downside to the hotel is the cost of parking. However this applies to every hotel in the area. We paid £40 for 30 hours parking beneath the hotel, but this is significantly less than it would have cost on a street meter or at a public car park Rated 4 out of 5: We stayed on 9th floor recently done up and very nice however we had contractors doing tiling over the weekend in a room nearby and it was noisy on the Friday with a little more care shown on Saturday and Sunday. We were offered a move on Saturday as we had no hot hot water for bathing and poor shower pressure on 9th floor which was to late for us to take up. The staff in all areas are more than helpful though and it was in a convenient location on a tube station with convenient links. For London I have paid more for a lot less. Shell station below with shop newspapers etc, cafes, restaurants, food shops, pubs, nearby. My complaint was well handled and an amicable settlement was reached quickly and without fuss. I would use this hotel again, which is a recommendation. |

| Rating out of 10: 2 Date stayed: April 2008 review: Future guests should be advised that a 'standard' double room in this hotel could be one where rooms are so small that the double bed is wedged tight against the wall leaving no access on one side of the bed. Very expensive - we paid £328 for a two night bed and breakfast deal - so one would expect that both parties would be able to get in and out of bed without disturbing their partner. The breadfasts were very good, buffet and hot breakfasts cooked to order - but not that much better than the Jarvis Hyde Park Hotel just down the road. There the rooms are large with a couple of easy chairs, you get biscuits with the tea/coffee/chocolate, also bottled still and sparkling water replenshed daily. At the Thistle it is just tea and coffee and even that we had to request on the second day as they had not replenshed the tray and no offer to supply clean crockery when they did supply replacements. To add insult to injury they had workmen starting drilling before 9.30 in the morning righ over our room. No joy trying to contact reception or housekeeping by phone so I had to go down 7 floors to speak to them in person but even then it was another 20 minute wait and a telephone call (successful contact this time) but by that time we had packed hurridly to get away from the din. All in all not an enjoyable experience which was a shame as the majority of the staff were very pleasant. |
