| Rating out of 10: 4 Date stayed: March 2007 review: Reception area good. Breakfast very satisfactory. However, I would not have rated the room as 4star. Rooms nees uupgrading and alot of noise from both windows and heating. The stairwells were crumbling. Consierge barely polite! Rating out of 10: 1 Date stayed: June 2006 review: Well what can I say other than total dump, 4* well wallpaper peeling off the walls dirty bathroom, Bed 2 singles pushed toghter with different height matresses, Whe we arrived they said we had been upgraded dread to think what the other room would have been like, Food was greasy and cold I have travelled all over the world but have never found a hotel like this before Faulty Towers in London, I am ashmed to think that visitors to britain are experiancing this type of bad hotel. I am english and live in the west country and lets say Thistle have alot to learn. Rating out of 10: 6 Date stayed: April 2006 review: My husband, myself and our 13 year old son visited London for the first time this year, we stayed at The Palace as we like to call it because it was recommended to us by our Travel Agent. Check in was a 3hour wait,(the reception staff where very helpful and friendly)during this time, but after travelling 36 hours and some to get there, what did we mind, so we thought we would check out The Tavern, to My Husband's delight his beloved XXXX beer was on tap and we had a Lovely chat with the very Freindly bar staff, so if you are planning on having a few beers, spirits or wine I do suggest you ask for MARIO at The Tavern, cause his service was friendly and outstanding (His genuine interest in our tourist stuff we did each day was great). Finally our room was ready hey it was nothing flash, but it was roomy and comfortable for all 3 of us. The conceirge was not much help but I am sure we must of just struck him on a bad day. Breakfast was good except for the Piano (it was a little too loud) and after 7days of it a bit overpowering. Our room was reasonably cleaned, fairly quiet and tidy everday of our stay but very cold. THE Hotel itself is in a very good Location close to supermarkets, shops, rail and bus services and right accross the road from the Kensington Palace itself and the breathtaking Hyde Park. We did eat in the restuarant Fox And Henderson"s for tea/Dinner and it was a lovely 2 or 3 corse deal plus a great bottle of wine, price wise compared to Australian restuarants about the same, the staff(night) could be a little more friendly. Overall an Old English Hotel in need of a little bit of renovating, but full of charm and character. To all those who made our stay pleasant we would like to say Thank-You,and if we do need to come back over to England, we will definitely stay at THE PALACE again.. Rating out of 10: 8 Date stayed: February 2006 review: Hotel above average.Good location. Rooms comfortable and a magnificent breakfast.Very friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely stay at the "Palace" again. Rating out of 10: 7 Date stayed: September 2005 review: My friend and I were having a few days away in London and decided to stay at the Thistle Hotel, Kensington Palace. The reason we chose this hotel was becase we got a really good flight and hotel deal, third night of our trip free. The hotel is in an excellent location, accross the street from Kensingtion Gardens and Hyde Park, plenty of shops just around the corner aswell. 10 minute walk from the High Street Kensington underground. Our standard twin room was clean and cosy. Although the hotel needs some upgrading, on the whole we had a pleasant stay. Bathroom - very warm - but if you leave the room windows open you should be ok. Considering the busy location, the room we had, room 323, was fairly quiet, although you could hear air conditioning being switched on and off - not enough to bother us though after a long days sightseeing! Hot chocolate we had was lovely! Breakfast wasn't included in our deal, but that wasn't a problem as there are plenty of places to eat a couple of minutes away. If you do decide to have breakfast at the hotel, be aware that it is £9.95 for the English and £11.95 for the continental breakfast. Overall - a pleasant stay. Would stay again. Rating out of 10: 4 Date stayed: April 2005 review: the room we stayed in was not to the standard we expected, the floor boards were very noisey, among other things, dinning room staff very rude, wont stay there again. Rating out of 10: 1 Date stayed: February 2005 review: I arrived mid evening. The room was booked but somehow the hotel had me down as somebody else, wrong gender to boot. The room was shabby and cold. The heating did not work, nor did the TV. The bath was stained due to age and use rather than dirt or grime. The windows were fithy. I asked to be moved rooms, which happened. I was lead to believe that I was being moved to a higher tariff room. In fact I got a double instead of a single. The food was mediocre and the service no better than OK. The dining room was empty apart from one other diner and I'm not surprised, the choice was poor and the quality only mediocre; the prices far too high. The staff were polite. I was on business and recommended to my company that they did not use this hotel again unless it is vetted for improved quality. I can only assume that the 4* rating was more to do with the location and post code rather than the quality of the hotel. Quite the worst hotel I've stayed at in many years of travelling in this country and abraoad. Rating out of 10: 5 Date stayed: July 2004 review: The room in which I stayed was insufficiently cleaned- dirty walls, carpet stains, etc. Though polite on the most part, some of the staff were rather rude to my roommate, who was having trouble calling the U.S. The hotel payphones were an inconvenience. Most U.S. phone cards did not work with them, forcing one to walk several blocks down the street to a payphone. The beds were quite uncomfortable. Rating out of 10: 1 Date stayed: January 2004 review: Slow service everywhere in hotel; poor heating, and just seemed to be old and run down as a place to stay - would not return |
