| Rated 4 out of 5: I only booked this hotel the night before travelling, due to being let down by another hotel in London. I am so glad we spent some time here as we fully intend to use this hotel again based on our experience this week. We took a black cab from Waterloo station ( £15 ) - as the cab arrived a very smart doorman helped us out ,and gave us some information about reception etc. This very nice chap also helped us later with further black cabs / information, always with a smile. Thank you. Check in was painless. Reception team friendly, good humoured, welcoming. We were offered and accepted an upgrade to larger rooms for £30 extra (per room). This is a big hotel and corridors all look the same. We had double and twin rooms on level six. All public areas were clean, well lit, and hotel staff helpful. We had requested 'quiet' rooms - i.e not on the street. Our rooms were, I think, the quietest I had ever stopped in. Also, great size, very comfortable, good condition. Might be nice to offer a few more complimentary items with the tea tray though ( had 2 of everything - and we found out more would be sent to the room if we asked ). Late night bar - great. London prices (!), but a happy, friendly place. Bar team very welcoming. We only used the restaurant for breakfast. Tasty, fresh, welcoming staff, no rush. The location of this hotel is fabulous for tourists. So close to so much. I didn't experience other facilities on this trip, but they are available, including executive rooms. If we can help with any questions about our visit to the Thistle Marble Arch, please drop us an email. Rated 3.5 out of 5: Located at the bottom of Oxford Street this hotel was conveniently located for a business function that I was attending in Park Lane. Efficient and friendly staff. My room was upgraded from the standard double to and executive twin which presumably gave me more room. Unfortunately my room was located on the second floor overlooking Oxford Street which meant that I was kept awake by the traffic noise outside my room. I am sure that a room on one of the other sides would have been much quieter. Breakfast was acceptable but extremely busy. A Thistle guest gave the hotel 4 out of 5 and explained: I arrived the week before Christmas and stayed 6 nights. As a single female I was apprehensive staying in a hotel on a busy street. As I had tickets to see the Royal Shakespeare Company perform Hamlet, I was worried about travelling at night, However , I can say that I felt very safe and will definitely be staying here again. Positives - 1. Large size room. This is the fourth time I have been to London. The prior times I had stayed in Bayswater and had a single room (no more than the size of a closet). The room at the Thistle was pleasantly large and had nice amenities (small refrigerator, coffee and tea bar, safe in room, large bathroom, flat screen tv). Similar size to a U.S. hotel room. 2. Great Location - Right on Oxford Street. The Marble Arch tube station only a block away). I will be staying here again. Great shops on Oxford street. Negatives - 1. Arriving at 11:00 am, I could not check in until 2:00 pm unless I upgraded to a higher price room. Since I have been up for almost 24 hours, I did and paid 30 pounds more a night for the privilege. 2. Noise - (Not the hotel's fault). I was there the week before Christmas, there was a steel drum band on Oxford street playing Christmas carols ( they only seemed to know three songs). 3. Restaurants/Room Service - Very expensive. Marks and Spencer's and Selfridges food halls are only a few blocks away. I bought my food and kept it in the refrigerator. |
