| Rated 3 out of 5: Stayed here b4 my flight to Austria. Got the shuttle bus to hotel, less than 20 minutes journey. Check in was faultless. The lobby was clean. But as you travelled up to your room, it was evident by the old tired carpets in the walkways that this hotel needs a bit of work. The room to my surprise was very clean and it was a large room with a double bed and a sofa. The bed was very comfortable, LCD tv but no phone in the room. Tea and coffee was available. The heating worked but worked too well. I tried to turn it down but no luck the only option was to turn it off. I couldn't open the large window either. The bathroom was a let down. It was clean but it reminded me of my days at uni living in the dorms. Needed updating really. The shower was powerful and there was only soap no body wash. Clean towels. I left at 515am so didn't have time for breakfast. I had a great sleep and got the shuttle to airport. I would actually stay in this hotel again. A Travelodge Gatwick guest gave the hotel 3 out of 5 and explained: After reading the reviews on here before we left I was apprehensive about staying at this hotel. especially as we were travelling with elderly parents. I therefore rang the hotel in advance, speaking to the manager and telling her my concerns. On arriving at Gatwick we took a taxi to the hotel. The hotel felt much further away that I thought it would be - I think due to the road system. Taxi was £12 but seated 5 so still better deal than hopper bus. On arrival check in was smooth and girl on desk was pleasant. We had 2 family rooms booked. Our room was basic but clean. Sofabed had to be made up by ourselves. In my parents room the sheet on their bed had a stain on it. My husband told reception and they were moved immediated. Second room was again basic but clean. Both had tea/coffee making facilities. We were booked in for both dinner and breakfast. Both meals were very nice. The staff on duty were also very helpful and pleasant even though busy esp on the evening. I requested a hairdryer from reception and had no problems getting one. Overall the hotel was fine for a 1 night stay. It was especially good value for money for us as we had only paid £9 for each room and had offers on the food. If you know what to expect from a travelodge you should not be disappointed. A guest rated the hotel 3 out of 5: Stayed one night before an early-ish flight so wasnt requiring - or expecting - much, especially as I only paid £25. Firstly, on arrival, following a previous reviewers tip, I parked on the road outside the Travelodge for free rather than finding a space in the carpark and paying to park. Check-in was swift with a friendly receptionist. However, I couldn't gain entry to my room and when returning to the reception desk it turned out the 'friendly' receptionist had written the wrong number on my key-card and I had in fact been trying to enter someone elses room! Fortunately the occupants couldnt have been in or it could have become a very unpleasant situation. Not much of an apology from reception so not a great start to my stay. The incident made me slightly nervous as I was travelling alone and worried the receptionist could make the same mistake with my room number - I propped a chair behind my door that night. The room itself was fine; a standard traveloge room. It was a family room, so quite spacious. The room and decor was clearly old and worn but it was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The bedding and towels were spotless. The bathroom was again worn but very clean. The only comment I can make is the sink taps must have been plumped at a funny angle as the water spurted out at a high angle - if the taps were on full you could end up with soaked clothes at waist level. Very strange. There was adequate wardrobe space but as other reviews have noted, some dressing table drawers are screwed shut - only one drawer was open in my room. But if you're staying for one night before/after a flight, as I guess most guests will be, how much storage space do you need? As with all Travelodges, there are no frills but there is a tea tray which includes 'home sized' mugs, better than the tiny cups in some hotels. The walls seemed thin, I could clearly hear conversations of people passing. Fortunately, I had quiet neighbours so it wasn't a problem, but I can see that it could be if you were next to a noisy room. There's a bar and restaurant on site, which I didn't use but they looked quite busy. The airport bus picks up directly outside and is £3 for the short (10 mins) trip to Gatwick. The return bus trip back isnt so easy, as the bus does not appear to run to the timetable published at Gatwick. As there was no sign of the bus, I took a taxi back from Gatwick to the Travelodge at a cost of £11.50. Overall, it was excellent value for a few hours stopover before my flight and if flying from Gatwick I would definitely use again. |
