| Rated 4 out of 5 : Pros - Free parking Easy drive to tube station Good location for commuting to London Cheery staff Clean, comfortable rooms Cons - Some rooms will suffer from traffic noise (ask for a courtyard room if this will bother you!) The food and catering is abysmal. I spent two nights at the West bound Travelodge recently as I had some business and sightseeing to do in London and as I travelled by car wanted a hotel which offered free parking and was not within the congestion charge zone. The first thing to say is that this hotel is in a motorway service area and is therefore highly difficult to reach by public transport. That said, there is a Tube station a 10 minute drive away which offers car parking at a daily rate, which is perfect if spending the day in London. Also, I'm sure some rooms suffer from traffic noise; however, if you ask for a room facing the inner courtyard (as I did) then there should be very little noise. I slept solidly for the 2 nights I stayed which is very rare for me in any hotel! The room was of a typical Travelodge standard which offers a bed (and a sofa / sofa bed in family rooms), with tea making equipment, a colour television and an en-suite bathroom. Although the room and some of the fittings were looking tired and dated, it was still perfectly clean and actually pretty spacious. The bathroom was of a good size and the pressure and amount of hot water was better than many 4 star hotels which I have stayed in. All the staff were very cheery, and happily met my requests for extra soap, towels and pillows with a smile which was much appreciated. As for food, one has to remember this is adjoined to a motorway service station and the food in these places is usually abominable. However, Heston Services are especially holocaustic. I ate in the 'Eat and Drink Co' cafeteria on my first night and was presented with inedible sausages and congealed eggs, with a few limp chips as garnish. I left most of it and went for the safety of the Burger King instead! Also, there are no licensed premises on site so best to bring your own, or there are a number of shops in Hounslow, most of which are open late, selling alcohol, fast food, cigarettes etc. Overall, if one expects Travelodge standards then one won't be disappointed. However, if you go in expecting Hilton standards (as many reviewers seem to!) then the shock will be nauseating; but for the money and the location, I can't fault it. Rated 3 out of 5 : My wife and I had an early morning flight. We arrived at 10 pm greeted by a couple of cheery employees. Ok the room was a little tired/shabby but I don't expect a lot for £25.00. The room was warm, I couldn't hear the traffic on the M4 and I couldn't hear any aircraft The remote control for the tv didn't work and the plug had come off its chain. The towels and sheets seemed clean enough Turned off the lights and woke up as planned at 7 am. Another cheery employee seemed quite surprised when I said I'd had a good nights sleep. 30 seconds after starting the car we were on the M4 and heading for Heathrow. All in all quite a pleasant stay. |
