Rated 4 out of 5:
I found this hotel to be good value for money. The staff ensured my stay was enjoyable. Front of House staff were welcoming on arrival and smartly dressed. One staff member in particular (Chrissy) went above and beyond to meet my party's various requests from the initial booking and throughout my stay. Ensuring my party's needs were catered for and also provided good local information, including shows and places to eat. The rooms are reflective of price and could do with re-modernising, however I found them to be clean and comfortable. The only issue I had, was that there were loud noises early in the morning and despite our checkout time of 11am, housekeeping knocked our door at around 8:30am. Other than this, not a sound heard all night, despite the karaoke taking place in the bar downstairs. A good variety of choice for breakfast, although some communication barriers did effect the speed of service. All in all, a very pleasant stay, hoping to book again next year.

Rated 3.5 out of 5:
In furnishing terms a little frayed at the edges, in an area of which much the same could be said, this hotel offered very friendly and efficient service, excellent coffee, and a quiet night's sleep - something which a larger collection of rating stars cannot always guarantee. Maybe it's because I lived in London in the '60s, but the town, even in its 'better' areas, seems a little tired these days - rather like an aging Grande Dame who, while she can still squeeze into her ball gown, fails to notice that the moths had got there first.

A Umi guest rated the stay as 4 out of 5 and said:
I stayed at the UMI Hotel on two separate occasions in Dec 09. It ticked all the boxes from my research and then you just hope for the best. The hotel is situated in a very quiet, attractive garden square in Bayswater. The location is conveniently close to several supermarkets, great cafes, pubs, restaurants and the High Street - Queensway - which has everything you will need, including two tube stations. Staff at Reception were very professional, friendly, efficient and helpful - a combination that is not easy to find in London hotels. I had a lovely view from my room, overlooking the garden square. The room itself was the size you expect in London, bed very comfortable, and the room well equipped with flat screen tv, iron and ironing board, tea making facilities, desk, cupboard, hairdryer. Bathroom is quite small, but fine. Creaky floorboards can be an issue in these old buildings as I discovered on my first stay, and I was disturbed by people above me. However, my second stay this was not a problem. I am a light sleeper though, and as this is my only criticism, it is minor. The dining area near Reception has a lovely modern decor and very pleasant to be served breakfast there. It comes as you would expect in a nice cafe - on a tray with white china, lovely fresh fruit salad. The girls working in the Dining area were extremely friendly as well. A selection of complimentary daily newspapers were a real bonus and something you would not expect, given the room rates. This is a wonderful, vibrant area of London to stay, central and convenient to everything. I really enjoyed my stay at the Umi Hotel and will happily recommend to friends.

A hotel guest gave the stay 3 out of 5:
Stayed at Umi twice; once in a single room and then a supposedly superior double (Grove) room with partner. Was hoping second time would be better than the first but unfortunately it wasn't. The Grove room really didn't live up to expectations; decor/furniture was dated, limited tea tray, no mineral water/biscuits, questionable cleanliness of robes, bed was nothing to write home about etc. Odd use of space... long corridor to small bedroom and even smaller shower room leading off the corridor which really needed updating. It was also very noisy on both nights. First time I thought I was just unlucky but second time confirmed that wasn't the case; creaky floorboards, fire doors slamming in corridors, noise from other bedrooms and housekeeping banging on doors very early on. Would I recommend it? Hotel is conveniently situated near several tubes and near to Notting Hill and the shops/market/restaurants etc but would advise booking only if you can get a deal (you'd definitely feel a bit cheated paying book rate!) and if you intend to spend minimal time in the hotel. Would advise anyone to bring earplugs to be on the safe side!
